Description
SingleCut Beersmiths was founded by Queens/NYC born, music-obsessed brewer Rich Buceta, whose life-long passions led to a place where hops and vinyl could shine side by side. After years of homebrewing and professional stints around NYC, Rich was true to his dream, diving headfirst into the brewing world. “My obsession is creating original hop-driven beer; distinguished by a firm respect and admiration for West Coast pioneers, and bending that to our East Coast / NYC interpretation.” Since opening in 2012, and with the help of an equally talented and devoted team, SingleCut has gained a loyal following throughout the East-Coast’s most respected markets. With his steadfast determination for the perfect pint, Rich penned "Mastery Knows No Shortcut" as the SingleCut mission statement. “It boils down to always demanding greatness, never compromising, and always play it at maximum volume.”

In my hand is a pint can from the latest order from Half Time. An imperial stout, I have high hopes, the label promises good things. My snifter of choice this evening is the long ago acquisition from ABGB in Austin, nice place to visit. Not a thick pour but it is jet black. The cover, what it is, is slim at best with a thin ring of taupe foam, but there is a resilient stream of carbonation. An okay nose, I determine dark chocolate, grain and berries of some kind. But the taste, oh my, the taste is good. Bakers chocolate, baked bread, strawberries, vanilla and plums. Like the pour, the sensation is thin, I prefer otherwise. No evidence of the moderately high ABV, covered up obviously. A good imperial stout, not over the top.

Draught @ THe Hoptimist, Manhattan (Mar 2025). Cloudy dark yellow with a very small frothy off-white head, tropical fruit aroma, adequate carbonation, medium bitter orange-mango=tropical fruit taste, thin body, long finish. Solid NEIPA.

Can from Good Beer, New York. Aroma is juicy tropical fruits with pineapple, green hops, and mango. Fairly bitter flavour with some hopburn. Medium body. Aromatically pleasing, taste could be more smooth.

440ml can. Hazy yellow gold, small white head. Sweet fruity aroma of pineapple, passionfruit, citrus. Taste has the sharp citrus and tropical notes with a piney bitterness and sweet malts. Well balanced. Smooth body, soft carbonation. Excellent.

On tap at Beer Run - Chelsea, pours a hazy blonde with a small white head. Nose has lots of pithy stone fruits and some melony hops. Flavour is minimally chalky, with stone fruit pith galore, a touch of dankness, and a sweet bready malt base. Competently made but just seems deficient in the hop department. Fine.

That being said, the coolest drinking day of my life was meeting Brian from @bayouteche and @cowboymouth. He just walked in like he wasn’t a fucking rockstar. THE NAME OF THE BAND IS....
