In 2000, Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan founded the 21st Amendment Brewery in San Francisco’s historic South Park neighborhood. The popular brewpub is now at the heart of the new city center, just south of the financial district and only two blocks from the San Francisco Giants baseball park. In addition to rotating taps of multiple award-winning hand-crafted house beers,

Draft. Reddish tinge to a straw beer with a whitish head. Smells like watermelon. Tastes like watermelon rind with some wheat. Rind flavor gets stringer and lasts and is just not enjoyable.

Draft. Golden amber beer with an off-white head. Sweet summer fruit and citrus aroma. Summer fruit, grapefruit, piney hop flavor with some decent malt backing. Lingering fruity/piney hops. Medium bodied.

Draught at ale house. Looked like urine. Smelled like urine. All I could taste was the watermelon, didn’t seem like a beer at all until the finish. Finish like a bad industrial beer, say Coors Light.

Light straw colour. Cloudy. Aroma is faint, slightly wheaty. Crisp, wheaty with faint watermelon. Okee-dokee. An Am Wheat with subtle fruit. Which is pretty good in terms of construction but still nothing I’d drink regularly.

Draft. Rich amber beer with a nice whitish head. Slight sweet citrus aroma. Tangerine, grapefruit, resiny flavor. Lingering tangerine bitterness. A bit of sweet malt.

Cask. Call me a sucker for Amarillo. Amber beer with a pillowy off-white head. Big apricot/summer fruit aroma. Sweet summer fruit (amarillo hop) flavor with some resin and a bit of caramel backing. Nice.

Clear amber, very good off-white head leaving lace. Hop bails, fresh hops, lunaria, grapefruit and fresh blossoms in the nose. Some base by malted grains, and then the best hops in the world kick in, in a great way. Sweet with a point of sourness, but very little bitterness, the hops are pure flavour. Citrus again, of course. Middle to well-bodied, slick, oily. Great IPA, the strenght of Steve & Shaun, and the rest of the Californian brewers. And this sample wasn’t even in the best of condition!

Light brownish-amber colour. Vaguely caramelly character. Strong chocolate presence tries to obscure caramelly, grainy notes. Fusels come in about halfway through. There is a hint of crisp hops late.

Very dark brown colour. Lightly roasty, chocolatey aroma. Light, mainly chocolatey character with just a light hint of roast. Smooth and creamy. The malts legitimize the nitrogen. Well-balanced.

Looks like shit - hazy flat amber. The aroma is standout, rich with bourbon, caramel, light alcohol and quite a bit of malt complexity. Very appetizing. The body is soft and sweet. There is surprisingly good integration between the bourbon/vanilla/wood and the sweetness of the dense malts, which has a soothing character not unlike the first edition of WWS. Excellent use of the barrells.
