From tap at Break Water Brewing company as Opal Belgian Saison. Pours hazy to murky yellow/orange with a lacing white head. Spiced and light wheaty aroma, light estery touch. Flavour is dry and fruity hops, mild acidic to sour with a light spice note swept through the beer from start to finish. Ends dry and mild spiced.

From tap at Pizza Port, Solana Beach. Pours clear and yellow with a lacing white head. Fruity hops aroma light peachy. Flavour is sweet and fruity and with a nice peach and mild grapefruity hops flavour. Ends medium dry and slight bitter.

From tap at Pizza Port, Solana Beach. Pours clear and golden yellow to orange with a lacing white head. Aroma is grapefruit hops. Mild bitter initial flavour with a solid grapefruity flavour following into the finish. Light sweetness from the caramel malt too. Nice dry and bitter finish.

On tap at the Toronado. Listed as Firestone Opal Wheat Wine (13 or 14% if I remember). Pours a stunningly beautiful hazy deep reddish amber with a small, wispy off-white head. Aroma of prunes, plums, caramel and alcohol. Taste is a malty and pruney barely wine with some banana and clove elements from the wheat with a considerable amount of oxidation in the taste. A lot of alcohol in the taste makes this odd drink a bit hard to put down. Syrupy mouthfeel with small bubbles.

22 oz. bottle from my Secret Santa. Thanks! Medium brown pour with 2-finger head. Aroma is light roasted malt with a heavier hop profile than expected. Taste of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and hops. Medium body.

Draft. Amber beer with an off-white head. Yeasty, malty, light fruit aroma. Spicy, malty, yeasty flavors. Medium body. LIngering yeast, spice, and malt. Nice body. I thought it’d show some astingency, but there’s none.

Draft. Also just called Opal. It’s a wheatwine. Reddish amber beer with a light off-white head. Malty, wheat aroma. Wheat, malt flavor with light fruitiness, noticeable alcohol, and a bit of darker malt. Fuller bodied. Lingering alcohol, wheat, malt, spice, fruit. Starts to get some cocoa notes. Gets better and better.

On Tap. Pours with a light, rocky, off-white head covering a clear amber body. Great lacing from the tap left on my glass, decent retention aswell. Aroma is of floral and slightly spicey hops, and a light bit of caramel. Taste is a bit watery at first, then a light caramel and biscut malt, followed by a pine hoppy bitterness towards the finish. Watery mouthfeel, light carbonation.

On tap. Pours with a smallish, tight, off-white head covering a clear dark amber body. Aroma is amber style malts with some fruity notes and a touch of caramel. Taste is malts and caramel upfront with a bit of card board and maybe hops in the finish (but the hops could just be the Arrogant Bastard I am burping up). Watery to dry mouthfeel with light carbonation.

Sample at San Diego Brewing Company. This brew is a hazy golden color with a wispy white head that disappears quickly. Thick top ring of lace, with spots underneath. Aroma of spice oranges, hay and fruit. Light-bodied with flavors of fruit, yeast and spices. The finish is spiced with a lingering fruit orchard flavor lingering. Pretty good overall.
