Crowler to chalice, the appearance was a semi-dark amber color with a lasting finger and a half’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Light stringy lace.
The aroma had some dark fruit, light amount of Belgian sugar, light grassy hops, dark bread, light butterscotch and ended with a little bit of earthy to herbal qualities.
The flavor moderately leaned towards the sweet side and brought in a little bit of damp sweet wood. Aftertaste was semi-sweet and somewhat \"doughy.\" Finish was herbal with a little bit of sweet wood and dark fruit.
The palate was medium bodied with a good sipping quality about it. Sly carbonation but felt fine. ABV felt as projected.
Overall, it’s alright as is, but I was hoping for some \"apples\" and a little bit of Belgian spice. Might have again for me, but not really that close in style, to be honest.

The appearance was a cloudy burnt yellow to orange color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Some light stringy lace here and there.
The aroma had a blend of sweet to bitter orange pulp and rind, some mango and a little bit of pineapple playing with some bubblegum and a little bit of citrus. Some sweet dough and white pepper slide in.
The flavor was semi-sweet through the pulp and rind. White pepper seemed to disappear here. Aftertaste was moderately sweet touching the finish in the same sort of way.
The palate was almost medium bodied, sitting just a touch under and having a pretty good carbonation. ABV felt fine. Somewhat dry along my tongue.
Overall, pretty good Belgian pale ale I could have again.

Draught at the brewery 1/19/17
Lightly to moderately hazy, pale bronze with a small, off-white head showing low retention.
Lactic acid, light doughy yeast and a moderate amount of juniper-like spiciness give a rough intimation of a sahti, though there’s quite a bit of raw lactic character here which pushes it towards the American kettle sour realm.
Too much lactic acidity mixed with caramel, bread and dough. Spices are strong but not overbearing. Odd powdered sugar-like notes on the end. Carbonation and texture are appropriate, attenuation is medium. No alcohol noted. Has some similarities to a sahti but definitely a ways off from the real thing.

Dark red. Brown to black at the core. The only aroma I get is a little smoke. Thank goodness it’s not a ham bomb. Smoked meat, salt, pine and oak. Really soft yet dense mouthfeel. Lingering ashy finish.

Dark brown. Hazy. Reddish edged. Smells of cedar, wood, coffee and ash with brown sugar. Crisp finish with lungerig baker chocolate and tar. Orange peel, spiced like Clive and thyme. Yum.

Very cloudy. A more muted gold or oranges color. Smells really fantastic. Strawberry orange and grapefruit juice. Crisp filling mouthfeel. Dry finish. Well balanced with a lot of juicy fruit elements. This is fantastic.

Black but brown edged. No head. Smells like a smore with marshmallow and graham cracker. Whoa. Heck yeah. That really great dense mouthfeel with a lovely sweet vanilla and marshmallow. Spiced pepper middle. Finish is unsweetened chocolate and coffee beans. Nice

On draught at BA Belgian Fest, 9/17/16.
Dark mahogany with a slight burgundy tint and lighter tan edges. Light tan head shows moderate to low retention. High clarity to the body.
Pretty straightforward Abt here, with raisin, prune and light hints of chocolate. It’s not one of the caramel-toffee heavy versions, thank God. Rather, there’s a strong vinous acidity that is highly enjoyable, though manifests more in the flavor, of course. The nose has dry toffee, soft Belgian esters (plum, cherry, apple) and very light phenol-alcohol warmth, which is actually quite enjoyable and really balances the malts, keeping it quite "dry" feeling in the nose. No flaw.
The flavor finds more of the acidity and it’s lovely, easily balancing the malt character (toffee, raisin, prune, light chocolate, vanilla) but not going too far as to make the beer tart, or anything like that. Snappy phenols and a light bready-graininess from the malt further produce the image of a very dry rendition, though it never feels astringent. And in fact, the malt texture is comforting and soft with enough sweetness leftover. Quite an elegant and simple, but very, very nicely done version that probably wouldn’t rate highly with the "Big Beer, Big Flavors" Crowd (ie. the beer geek community). My only real complaint is that the carbonation was rather loose. Tightening that up would really make this feel polished and exquisite (though getting a really tight, spritzy carbonation on high abv Belgian beers on draught is extremely difficult, so it’s a minor complaint).

Draught at the brewery on 8/11/16.
Lightly hazy/murky, maroon-mahogany body is topped by a small, dark beige head showing low retention.
Right away I notice much more barleywine-like characteristics than I do sour brown. Odd, as I’ve had the base beer and it’s quite given to red fruits, acetic acid and vanilla-tinged oakiness. But here it’s much more a raisin-caramel-vanilla character, with light melanoidins, gentle oak and just a hint of peppery whiskey. No alcohol or flaw.
In the mouth it’s similar. So strange! Where did the acetic acid go?? Raisins, caramel, oxidation and lots of vanilla, with nutty tannin, a soft maltiness and no alcohol or flaw. Odd.

Draught at the brewery, 8/11/16.
Moderately hazy, light, flaxen-blonde body is well-carbonated and topped by a good-sized white head showing strong retention.
Spicy phenols in the nose promise white pepper and very light clove, as the dry, rustic, grainy wheat/cereal character alongside a strong minerality provides incredible clarity and brightness. Not heavy on the banana or bubble gum, though the esters are certainly present to some degree. They further add softness to the beer and no alcohol or flaw is present.
Wasn’t expecting much out of this light rendition, but wow is this stuff flavorful...moderate acidity balances light malt sweetness and soft, lightly juicy esters as a crisp, snappy grain and phenol combination clears the palate on the finish, leaving a trail of minerality. A very gentle bitterness helps accomplish this as well, from the grassy, herbal hops, while white bread and light honey linger on. Awesome stuff and I love the assertiveness of flavor and yet crisp, drinkability.
