Description
A blurry picture of a sweet little farmhouse popped up on their computer screen. They smiled. A few short weeks later Melanie and Jeremy White were standing at the bottom of a curving drive, somewhat stunned to realise they had just bought over 100 acres of pristine Cape Breton farmland. Perched on a southern slope facing the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Bras D'Or Lake, a hopyard was planted, and the land was certified organic. Water naturally rich in minerals was perfect for brewing. Construction began.
Ten years later, Big Spruce Brewing is focused on creating exceptional ingredient-driven beer. All of our ales and lagers are brewed with organic grain & hops, and we continually strive to keep giving you the perfect pint, every time.

473ml can. Pours a cloudy orange gold with yeast particles that sink to the bottom and a medium, creamy, long lasting, off-white head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet fruity aroma of bready wheat malt, caramel, peach, mango, pineapple, orange peel and piney hops. Sweet fruity flavour of bready wheat malt, orange, grapefruit rind, mango, earthy yeast, oats and piney hops in a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with a sticky, oily texture and average carbonation. Well balanced and tasty.

473ml can. Pours a slightly hazy yellow gold with a large, frothy, long lasting, white head that leaves thick curtains of lace. Aroma of grainy pale malt and grassy hops. Semi-sweet flavour of grainy pale malt, lemon, grass and spicy hops in a crisp, dry, bitter finish. Light body with an almost creamy texture and average carbonation. Refreshing and crushable.

Tasting at Ryan's, can
Cloudy blond colour. Nice aroma, dank, orange zest. Lean mouthfeel, light residual sweetness, the malt base is delicate, bold hop character, but also some pith in the finish.
Rough, but good.

Opaque with a thick head. Fruity, weedy hop character. Good malt. Light alcohol. Tasty IPA, but there's some solid brewers on this so not surprised.

Bottle at Black Christmas March 2022, vintage 2020
A bit dusty smell, roasted malts highlighted by the barrel. Lighter flavour than the Rye Whiskey and Glenora tasted just before, dusty malts, some roastiness. Simplistic.

Dark brown colour. Not much aroma; good dark malts, dark sugar, but light body, evident alcohol. It's good, but with no complexity.
