Description
Shacksbury Cider makes dry, food friendly wild ciders in Vergennes, Vermont. We source over half of our apples from Sunrise Orchards in Vermont as well as old, abandoned orchards throughout the Champlain Valley. We also work with Dragon Orchard in England and Petritegi Sagardoa in Spain. Our fermentations are slow and deliberate. We rarely use added sulfites. We prefer native yeast / wild fermentations and bottle condition via methode ancestrale or methode champenoise whenever possible. At Shacksbury, we believe cider can, and should, be daring and complex. From gnarled trees on New England farmsteads to Old World orchards in England and Spain, our cider will change the way you think about this amazing fruit.

Can from Covenhoven. Baby Duvel glass. Monday night football & my glass of Rosé. Clear, purple drank with red tones. Smells like good sangria: Grapes, apples, oranges & red wine. Taste is orange rind, bittersweet apples & most definitely not table grapes. Little bit of malic. Floral, tannic skin that makes you savor it. Juicy, thin, low carb & just a hair from being too sweet. One of the top rose style cider I’ve had in this rather new category. Again, bonus points for how cheap their cans are.

Cute little bottle from Covenhoven. Baby Duvel glass pour. Pale gold, just a bit of haze. Dusty yeast, more pear then apple, sweet white wine, brine, gum. A few more descriptors as it warms & opens up & up. Bittersweet & leaning towards sidra. Lemon, market apple sweetness, boozy, acetate, yeast, paper, goopy, mild carbonation. Wine is there, but I can't seem to find the rye. I'm not excited about this.

4-pack from my local hipster-mart. Pint glass. Opaque yellow orange brew. Smells of curiously orange-like sharp apples. Lemon, pepper, seltzer. Taste is gently fruity. Hints at wood. Building acidity that gives way to floral orange citrus. Light carbonation. Simple, but not too simple. Similar to Spritz, but bigger, cleaner & quite easy to make disappear. Really great cider for $4 a can.

Can from New Beer Distributors. WTF happened?!?! Pint glass pour. Solid clear amber color. Airy, saline, minerally nose. Can’t tell if this is still with some secondary bubbles, or just half flat. I like it. Tastes is bittersweet & half sharp, like the skin off some sort of grape/berry/foreign fruit that I can’t quite place. Wood tannins & saline help straighten it out. Something sour near the end. Finish leans dry, but not completely. Unique flavor. Enjoyed it.

Can. Cranberry red with bubbles. Sweet apples and grapes in the nose, slightly vinous. Flavor is tannic wine, more grape than apple, nice fruit. Spicy, cinnamon. A bit sweet, though, which wore on my over the glass.

Pours hazy straw into a shaker. No head. Sweet apple aromas. Crisp with tart apple tannins upfront abruptly turning to dry dusty skin finish.
