AF Brew is one of the pioneers of Russian craft beer revolution. We started the show in the ‘faraway’ 2012 in St. Petersburg, the most beer-focused and heritage city of Russia. Four years ago we started as a gipsy brewery having launched one of the first accessible craft beers in Russia – Ingria IPA, with the name dedicated to historically disputed region where the city of St. Petersburg is located. Our primary mission has never changed since then – we brew beer which was never brewed before and we keep no rules. November 2016 we turned the biggest page in our history: we finally built our very own brewery in our home city. The brewery is located on the historical site of 18-19th century city brewery and we did our best to make it a very nice and devoted place to brew and to spend time in. The open plan site with 20 hl brewing system and 400 hl fermentation capacity is supposed to grow twice in two years. It is already a home base for all our brews, collaborations and guest projects. It’s coupled with a barrel-room full of various wood-aging stuff and a taproom to drink, talk and have fun around.

Clear red-pink colour. Aroma is a bit musty and cheesey. Flavour is lightly tart and fruity with the raspberries.

From tap. Pours hazy deep brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty and caramelish. Toasted malty. Crisp hoppy and fruity. Lingering fruity far finish.

500ml bottle from Dogma in Moscow. Pours black with a medium-sized beige head. Very tempting aroma of oranges, coffee, tobacco. Taste is roasted malt, bitter hops, black coffee. I'd like it more if it were a bit sweeter. Not bad all the same.

Deep honey colour, nice creamy head. Stays. Fresh passion fruit, mango on nose. Medium to full body. Smooth mouth feel. Much fruity sweetness and massive grapefruit bitterness. Good fresh brew.

Draught. Deep brown to black. Dense tan head. Lots of roasted malts, coffee, citrus hops on nose. Similar taste. Too much roast. Low to medium citric bitterness. Hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle shared at Hop Swap February 2017 - Cock Tavern. Pours black-brown with a moderate, creamy tan head. The nose holds light roast, milk chocolate, maybe some faint earthy notes. Medium sweet flavour, lightly drying, with some leathery berries, a little baking cocoa. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Slightly drying in the finish, with further baking cocoa, scorched earth, mellow roast, some burnt pine. Enjoyable gear.

Bottle. Opaque raspberry red pour, minimal head. Big natural raspberries and tart saltiness on nose. Light body. Oily texture. Dry taste. Very tart. Quite salty. Low to light bitterness. Refreshing. Nice to have on a weekend morning
