Description
Located in the heart of Nashville, TN, New Heights Brewing is a small craft brewery that creates ales we’re passionate about and crave—from intensely hoppy IPAs to crisp, clean ales and rich imperial stouts. It all began with a brew kit—that head brewer, Jeff Fountain, received from his wife, Tracey. After lots of corporate hours in cultures highly reminiscent of the movie Office Space, Jeff quit his 9-5 to do what really made him happy—working with his hands and giving back to the community by making great beer.

From his beginnings as a microbrewery volunteer in Carlsbad, CA, to brewer at San Diego’s Mission Brewery, Jeff honed his craft and discovered his own style. Through his job at Mission and his involvement in local homebrew clubs (Mash Heads), Jeff was exposed to some of the best and brightest craftsmen in the industry.

In 2014, armed with years of experience, research, plans, and thousands of backyard brewing hours to unearth the perfect first flight, Jeff and Tracey moved to Nashville to start New Heights Brewing—an ode to their San Diego neighborhood (our logo features the University Heights’ North Park Water Tower in front of the Nashville skyline), and a salute to starting new beginnings, making bold moves, and finding “home” wherever you are.

Thick with earthy graininess, underlined by unexpected vegetal notes and a wickedly dry finish. Very heavy-handed and clunky, with a pronounced sweetness underneath the rough malts and an assertive bitterness too pronounced for the style. Very American, not very German. Mandarina Bavarias are a nice touch, but overall way too aggressive for such a nuanced style. Pass.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a mostly clear gold with a finger of foam that dissipates. Lots of banana cream pie in the nose with clove and light alcohol notes. Warming on the palate, with booze, clove, banana pie and a sweet candi sugar undertone. Smooth on the palate, but a little hot due to the perceived alcohol. Lingering lightly peppery finish with more booze and banana and clove aromas. Not bad, but a tad too sweet for my liking.

Tasting at Matt's, can
Black color, oily, no head. Dark chocolate aroma, maybe some apples. Good body strength, good chocolate flavor, very nutty. Balanced.
Very good.

Hazy, dullish tan...not a great look. Thin head. Soft, creamy, with a bitter hop note, fairly clean sweet malts. Not all that bright but it is balanced.

Dull-looking, no head. Doesn't look like a dialled-in flagship. Understated hops. Earthy, not all that bright. Some orange and pear in the finish, along with decent bitterness.

Amber, just a touch of haze. Very thin head. Earthy, sort of older mosaic, touch of caramel. Fresh on the palate, has a nice sweeter cookieish malts. Good.
