Description
As of 5/24/25 Wasatch Brewery beers will no longer be brewed in Utah. They will be brewed in the Monster Brewing network.
“Where’s the beer? Where are the breweries?” Those were among the first thoughts Greg Schirf had after moving to Utah from Milwaukee in the early 80’s. Incredibly, drinking and brewing were all but forbidden. Greg took matters into his own hands and did what any self-respecting midwesterner would do: He started a brewery. Wasatch was the very first brewery in Utah – and one of the first craft brewers in all of the U.S. – brewing award-winning brews since 1986.
In 1988, Greg Schirf proposed another bill to the Utah Legislature making brewpubs legal in Utah and opened the first brewpub at the top of historic Main Street in the resort town of Park City. Wasatch continues to misbehave, turning out naughty beer after naughty beer year after year.

Bottle shared by Mikey, thanks man!. Pours a ruddy brown color with a medium off-white head. The aroma is huge barrel: massive sweet sugary plum and dusty candy. The flavor is similarly a big barrel beer: dried fruit; raisin; light pheols; massive sweet barrel of sugary warmth. A drinkable beer despite the warmth. Interesting for sure. I’d really like to see this beer go into production, but even more I’d like to see Outer Darkness in other barrels! This beer has been on in Nebraska at Jake’s Cigars and Spirits for sometime, you might find it there.

June 2010: On tap at ’The Bit and Spur’, Springdale, outside Zion NP. Had this for desert after a very good Pasta dish. Pint glass, dark, almost black body. A rich creamy head of tanned bubbles sat on top, sadly they fell away very quickly to just a collar and thin wispy covering. The smell was encouraging, roasted/toasted malts with some coffee and dark chocolate hidden in the background. The taste however let it down somewhat, as did its depth of body. I know the 4% ABV law doesn’t help the brewers of Utah, but this just seemed a bit weak and thin in the flavour stakes. There are plenty of good flavoursome beers below 4% ABV, this isn’t one of them in my eyes.

12oz bottle poured into an English Pint. Pours a very dark brown with minimal white head. Very light aroma of chocolate with a little roasty coffee. Taste is about the same. Very watered down chocolate with just a little coffee. Light bodied with a thin texture. Flat carbonation and an average finish. Overall, it’s ok. Really I just needed a beer from Utah and, now that I have it, I’m glad I bought a single and not a 6-pack.

Bottle. Aroma was caramel and then an unpleasant sweatiness that marked it down . Dark red brown colour with white head. light lacing. Lovely flavour, caramel and toast. Some hop in the finish to prevent it from getting too sweet.
