Hotel tasting with Colin Theydon Bois. Almost opaque dark brown beer, fluffy pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Mild fine carbonation. Mild dark malts, quite light and a little tangy. Turns a little sweeter. Touch of dark fruits. Hops are the expected bitterish pine. Airy dry finish. Not bad at all.

330ml bottle. Hazy, dark chestnut colour with average to huge, firm, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head with beaten egg-white stiffness. Aroma delivers an inseparable mixture of roasty dark malty and herbal hoppy flavours, notes of green onions, dark chocolate, spearmint, "After Eight". Taste is dark malty with roasty notes and subtle sweetness, herbal, piney and citrusy hoppy counterweight is almost inextricably, not separately distinguishable interwoven, spearmint, green onions, liquorice (Süßholz, nicht Lakritz). Perfected to such an extent that it shows immediately the necessity to constitute Black IPA as style in its own right.

Bottle split with Kenny in the special surprise room tasting, Amsterdam Inntel pre Borefts livener, 25/09/14. Hazed orange amber with a good sized off white head that retains well. Nose is floral hop, light pine, bitter orange, straw, light spice. Taste comprises bitter citric rinds, hoppy punch, red grapefruit, earthy licks, spice. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close playing light booze tunes. Ok drinkable affair but down the pecking order for style.

Bottle split with Kenny in the special surprise room tasting, Amsterdam Inntel pre Borefts livener, 25/09/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent khaki covering. Nose is earthy hop, pine, tangy bitter red berryness, tropical fruit tunes, light roast. Taste comprises earthy roast, liqourice, light spice, Beena berry, dank trops. Medium bodied, spritzy carbs - over cooked bit of a tongue bristler, earthy hop bitterness in the close. Decent enough CDA, overcarbing drags it down a notch or two for this Bois!

330ml bottle. Hazy, yellow-ish, pale golden colour with huge, firm, frothy, half-way lasting, white head. Fruity aroma has notes of mirabelle and apricot, a herbal, spicy, yeasty touch. Taste is peppery spicy, yeasty on slightly unspecific fruity, malty basis, some tartness, hints of mirabelle and apricot again; effervescent carbonation. Natural, slightly wild and dirty - nice.
