Description
Oxbow is a small farmhouse brewery located in rural Newcastle, Maine. The brewery is nestled in an enchanted forest amongst rolling farmlands and winding tidal rivers, of which the ebb and flow provide a constant reminder that the coast is near.
The name Oxbow is inspired by the bends in these rivers, the Dyer in particular, which features stunning horseshoe-shaped oxbows where the river covers tremendous ground to travel what could otherwise be a very short linear distance. We employ a similar approach when crafting our beers, taking months or years to create a beverage that is commonly produced in a matter of days.

2017 bottle - recommended to use within 3 years (which was 4 years ago)... so let's see how this goes... Pours hazy gold into a tulip. Bright white head with good retention recedes to coat surface. Brett and pit fruit aromas. Crisp with tart apricot and peach upfront turning to a mild, earthy lactic brett and grapefruit pith finish. Not bad... but cardboard enters as it warms docking a couple of points...

Canned 3/7/24 at Zero Gravity, drunk 4/6/24. Scant honey-like malt. But of heft and some herbal and earthy hops. Not all that bright or aromatic. Sorta syrupy and poorly-carbonated. Heavy sourdough. Moderate bitterness. Lingering cakey, rather sluggish malts. Not very crisp or well-yeasted. Not lovin' these Zero Gravity contracted beers at all....

355mL canned 1/16/24, drunk 4/4/24. Deep bronze-copper. Small, beige head, quickly to light cover. Hop-accentuated peppery saison phenols with a clean, malty, bready balance and flaw or over-hopping. Soft, rich, great mineral character and obviously well-aged. Richly-malted and well-attenuated with excellent balancing hop and yeast bitterness/acidity. Fresh herbs and pepper with rich honey and hints of maple drying out nicely on the finish. Soft, rich, flavorful, authentically Belgian saison-like and incredibly balanced.
