Description
Oxbow is a small farmhouse brewery located in rural Newcastle, Maine. The brewery is nestled in an enchanted forest amongst rolling farmlands and winding tidal rivers, of which the ebb and flow provide a constant reminder that the coast is near.
The name Oxbow is inspired by the bends in these rivers, the Dyer in particular, which features stunning horseshoe-shaped oxbows where the river covers tremendous ground to travel what could otherwise be a very short linear distance. We employ a similar approach when crafting our beers, taking months or years to create a beverage that is commonly produced in a matter of days.

Pour is a hazy bright yellow with a large white head. This beer jumped out of the can. Aroma is yeast funk ester and I do get the sage. Flavor is a little lighter than I was expecting. Some yeast funk and sage. I did not get any orange peel. A little watery, kind of a saison lite if you will.

Solid dry porter, notes of bittersweet chocolate and dark roast coffee against a chalky, piney bitterness. Finishes smooth with lingering unsweetened chocolate in the fade. Nice pint.

Bottle purchased from Ellwood Thompson’s in Richmond, VA - dark ruby pour - moderate, soapy lace - nose is deep red wine, rich oak, light acetic character, mild funk, light smoke and maple - complex and inviting - flavor is super dry and deeply tannic, with moderate acetic character and light lacto tartness - lots of red wine oak in the finish - smoke is basically absent in the flavor, though, which is disappointing - still, a solid, gentle, and nuanced sour, which is indeed a rare commodity these days - I did not read the bottling date when purchases, but I am looking at it now and it appears to be from 10/28/20, and if so, it is aging quite gracefully, especially if it had been sitting under the fluorescent lights of Ellwood Thompsons for the last 6 years.

Can to becher glass.
Appearance is as shown in the picture.
Aroma: soft semi-rustic sweet floral to rye and sweet wheaty tones with a touch of skunky sort of Euro-ish accents which actually smooth out as the beer continues to warm
Flavor: melds the prior noted aromas to a fine variety of sweet qualities and allows a nice rye sweet to floral and rustic finish with an edge of dryness
Texture: light to medium bodied; sessionable; good smoothness with a very nice carb level
Overall: I'd say this is a worthy of pale lager to return to.

Not bad, grassy and grainy with notes of apple, straw, and white bread followed by a spicy-floral hop finish.
