Bottle, 2016 vintage. Cellared proper. Flavor of mild bourbon, caramel, toffee, molasses, a hint of dark fruit, oak, and some mild raisin. Medium-full body. Mild carbonation. Sticky mouthfeel. The booze is well masked in the finish. Nice mild warming after the sip. I love the Heaven Hill barrels! Easily the best brew I have sampled from Madhouse.

Sampler at Iowa Taproom. Smell has a note of wheat malt. Taste is a bit tart, but there's also a backing of what I think is wheat malt.

4 oz. draft at Iowa TapRoom, Des Moines, IA. Nice appearance of a light red/ purple color. Aroma is similar to a cherry sweet tart. The flavor is massively tart and lactic. I get a hint of raspberry mixed with a medicinal cherry cough medicine in the center. The finish is sharp lactic and moldy oak.

Wow! Just my opinion but… this brewery should stick to traditional styles. These β€œsour” ales need a lot of work. Maybe some of the bottles would mellow with time but at retail of $15.99, I am not buying any.

4 oz. draft at Iowa TapRoom, Des Moines, IA. Appearance is a dull yellow color. Well, it smelled nice, mild coconut water and a slightly tart pineapple juice. Something has gone wrong in the flavor, entirely to much vinegar character.

The mixture of sharp vinegar and funky pineapple juice was extremely unpleasant. The coconut seems to also make the body thin. Could not stomach this. Wowie indeed!

750 ml bottle. Almost clear in color gold, big bubbles. The nose is sour lemon, tart, funky, tangerine and melons.

Bone dry texture with a lactic acid almost sets teeth enamel from peeling. A good amount of lemon juice, tangerine juice. very nice. The body is medium body and a nice effervescence. Much better than expected.

Bottle/Fest. A- Blueberries, slightly sour. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, brown head. T- Blueberries, tart. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, sour finish. O- Thankfully this was more sour ale than stout. I hate it when breweries try to pass of a beer that most times is considered a poorly done beer. This was loaded with blueberries and the blackberry seemed very minimal. The right amount of sweetness and sourness. Surprisingly really tasty.

750 ml bottle from a trade, thanks Adrien! Aroma is cinnamon, mild ash, dark chocolate. No pepper in the aroma. The flavor started nice with the cinnamon, mild vanilla bean and a chocolate malt note. Then the finish slaps you with a hard burning heat of peppers. Mexican stout for sure. But the burn of the pepper is borderline harsh. Tone down the heat and this would be nice. This is not Westbrook Mexican cake.
