Description
Founded in December 2009 by beer lovers trying to make work fun again, Clown Shoes has been redefining what craft beer should be. We strive to add our own little creative twists on under-represented styles and styles in need of change.

In late 2017, Clown Shoes joined Mass. Bay Brewing Company, makers of Harpoon and UFO. With the greater resources and capabilities, we have expanded our special release and barrel aging programs with over 25 one-off beers in 2018 alone. Clown Shoes continues to grow and innovate, while keeping our own personality and style to bring you interesting and unique beers.

Can@SBWF2022. Hazy orangeish brown colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, some spices, alcohol and mild nutty and wooden tones. Flavour is pretty much following the pattern of the aroma. Smooth, but nothing that special.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour, almost black, with brief beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark bread, maple syrup, coffee, dark chocolate, spices (cinnamon), tobacco, oak wood, bourbon and vanilla. Malty, roasted, sweetish taste with dark bread, maple syrup, coffee, dark chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, treacle, tobacco, liquorice, oak wood, bourbon, vanilla and a gentle roasty bitterness in a warming, vinous finish. More than medium body, sweet. Rich and tasty, fairly well balanced for its strength. Very nice.

Tapster: sort if hazy with white head. Even though on draught tastes and smells old. Malty. Weirdly fruity. Or maybe it was the terpenes. Meh.

Sample (thanks omhper!). Hazy yellow colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is fruity, floral, some nectary and mild wooden tones. Flavour is floral, herbal, grassy and some slight yeasty tones with a wee bit cellary tones.

Can from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brn/blk with a large foamy tan head. Aroma is strongly maple. Overall suggests French Toast. Med body. Flavor is strongly maple with some bourbon and light wood astringency. Not at all dry. There is some bitterness from something. Heat is hard to find, but it's there. Maple maple maple.

Sampled from the tap at Red Cow North Loop. Pours a clear deep gold with a copper hue and an off white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma pine and some earthy resin with a bit of grain and bread backing. Flavor has dank pine and resin with some earthy grass and grains coming through.

Sample (thanks omhper!). Black colour, small beigeish brown head. Aroma is liqiuorice, some toffee and mild chocolaty and some roasted tones. Flavour is liquorice, some alcohol sweetness, chocolaty, nutty and mild roasted tones. Quite smooth, nice roasted, but sweet aftertaste.

Pint can found locally, I have a tulip glass in place to catch the pour. Really dark brown in color, almost black, with a here and gone cover of creamy tan foam. Nicely fragrant, sweet chocolate, grain, vanilla and booze. The taste, unfortunately does not keep up with the promise of the scent. Chocolate, bread, a hint of bourbon, malt and a curious metallic presence. A thin sensation, I expected some depth. Significant comedown from previous Clown Shoes beers.
