Description

0.5 l bottle from 'REWE' (Wyk auf Föhr), best before October 2023. Clear, golden with a medium large, frothy, stable, white head. Slightly sweetish, gently grassy-spicy and a little fruity-floral aroma of grains, some fresh grass and light lemon peel. Minimally sweet, gently bitter, quite dry, a bit grassy-spicy and minimally fruity-floral taste of grains, straw and hints of lemon peel, followed by a short, quite bitter, very dry finish. Almost medium-bodied, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft to average carbonation. Very unusual for a Bavarian Pils, would say it's rather a Northern German Pilsener style-wise. Not bad but a bit too neutral.

0.5 l bottle from 'REWE' (Wyk auf Föhr), best before October 2023. A little hazy, orangeish amber with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish, slightly malty, gently floral aroma of caramel, honey, grains and some straw. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly floral taste of grains, caramel, straw and some honey, followed by a short, gently bitter, slightly dry finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. A bit too grainy for my liking, other than that quite okay.

Bottle picked up from Sulzberger Bierhaus Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm and consumed at home, sat outside in glorious sunshine although the sun has dipped down a little now. Listening to Tom Ravencroft and Deb Grant on 6Music, we had Chicken and Asparagus Pie with Broccoli Cheese, potatoes and roasted carrots, we've got Raspberry Ripple Ice Cream for pudding. That's the longest intro ever. Pours clear gold, mid sized white head, soft mouthfeel, interesting but a little bit dull, a touch thin and watery with very little depth. Ok.

Bottle picked up from Sulzberger Bierhaus Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm and consumed at home sat outside in the garden on another glorious sunshiney day, Sunday 18th June 2023 we're gardening. Wow what a fantastic day. Listening to 6Music. Pours chestnut colour again excellent clarity, off white head. This is completely next level compared to their Helles which was a tad disappointing. Nice softness, a little tangy fruit, caramel, toffee and a little nutty edge. Not particularly sweet, it's a good example of the style.

Wow what a fantastic day. Listening to 6Music. Pours light gold, excellent clarity, white head. This is a fairly pedestrian Helles, it's okay but not really doing much for me, a little malty, tbf the sweetness is not an issue it's well balanced in that respect with a stream of light bitterness and drying finish. It's ok.

Bottle from Raynville Superstore. It pours a clear deep red - brown with a handsome khaki head. The aroma is brown bread, toasty grain, nutty, cereal, wood, leather, touch of bitter chocolate and malt loaf. The taste is dry, toasty, bitter - sweet, decent glug of cola, toasty brown bread, earthy, nutty, walnut, some light spice, filter coffee, cacao and malt loaf with a toasty finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Flavourful and rather drinkable.
