Description
The Broad Ripple Brewpub was established in 1990 by Englishman John Hill, born in Middlesbrough in North Yorkshire, and his wife Nancy, a Hoosier native. It is Indiana’s very first brewpub (a restaurant that brews its own beer) and the oldest operating brewery in the state. The Brewpub was designed to recreate a typical English pub with its dark wood paneling, leaded stained glass windows, decorative tin ceiling, and cozy fire place. The Brewpub has one of the largest outdoor cafes in Broad Ripple Village, seating up to seventy people.

Cask - Pours dark brown with a lingering light tan head. Smells of roast malt and coffee. The flavor is of dark roast malt and coffee with the style’s characteristic dry finish. It has the low carbonation of a cask ale. Medium body. It’s pretty light for a stout.

Pours clear pale gold and has a sort of buttery caramel aroma. That’s surprising. The flavor is tart with sweet bready malt. Lemony to the point of being like sucking on lemon heads as the menu says? I wouldn’t say that. Light bodied, mild, refreshing.

Pours hazy pale yellow with very little head. The aroma is smoky with a little lemon. The flavor is of smoke, oak, lemon, malty wheat, and some mild hop bitterness. Light bodied. Interesting. Finding a style that’s new to me is a rare treat.

Pours mostly clear deep amber with a small, lingering head. It smells of grapes and malt and maybe cherries. The flavor is quite sweet. The fruity character is prominent. Grapes, grapefruit, some cherry notes. The nearly 9% abv is buried. Hard to categorize as the fruit is alright but this doesn’t taste very “Belgian”. It’s sweeter than I’d like.

Amber pour. The aroma is of spicy yeast and malt. Flavor is sweet with caramel malt and fruit esters. It's fairly good. It didn't blow me away.

Sampled from the tap at GTMW 2017. Pours a clear light gold with a white head that dissipates quickly to the edges. aroma has as good amount of bread, grains and grass with a bit of straw underlying. Flavor is similar with some grass, grains and bread with a hint of caramel underlying.
