Glass, 4-ounce, draught, during the Mondial de la bière, savoured on June 13 2014; eye: caramel with an orangey hue, lightly hazy, tiny ring of tan head, no lacing; nose: sour, infected; mouth: sour, infected; overall: why serve infected beer?

Honest? I was getting pretty drunk by this one, but that’s the way it goes at the Ratebeer Toronto East vs. West Beerratic event at the Only. But maybe this beer benefitted from it’s brethren messing up my blood, and hurtin’ my liver. Who knows? Not me. It’s a wit beer that looks, well like a wit, blonde with haze, with one finger of dense white cap. The nose is wheat malts, some cilantro and some cardamom. Similar taste lighter wheaty malt, cilantro and cardamom. I say it’s ok-ish. And you should know, since this is from notes, I apparently speak drunk Helsdon. Convenient. I’ll revisit this one at some point and give evaluate it a little earlier in the evening.

On tap at the Ottawa beerfest. On tap at the Ottawa beerfest, it pours a light opaque straw gold. The nose is earthy, mildly spicy with soft herbal hop notes. Soft bodied with a round carbonation. The taste is mildly bitter, light cloves, bready wheat, with a lightly hoppy green bitter finish. A clean hoppy weizen.

On tap at the Ottawa Beerfest. Hawaiian Style Pale Ale served in my 5$ Spearhead tasting snifter. Their flagship beer pours an opaque copper-orange. The nose is a burst of  piney orange citrus hops. Not sure what they mean by Hawaiian but this is quite good. It has a crisp mouthfeel of palate cleansing bitterness, It’s  a clean bitter hoppy pale ale with a solid malt backbone.

Spearhead Moroccan Brown Ale 6% Clear brown with a tan head and a fruity dates, figs and spices. Medium bodied with figgy caramel and spices. More bitter than I expected with a herbal quality. Ok —— 2014 3.1———— A deep amber brown, thick luscious beige head. Sweet malty, caramel, raisins in the aroma. The taste is tame after reading the label which had me expecting figs, dates, raisins & cinnamon.  The taste is a decent brown ale with very mild raisin/figs. After it warmed up the cinnamon came out a bit. OK but I was expecting more after reading the label.
