Light oat and some syrup. Caramel and roast. Certainly better than the first two I tried here. Pours black with decent head. Light bittersweet finish. Decent balance. Tap at brewpub.

12 ounce bottle from State Line, 4/14/15. Hazy amber, medium sized fizzy tan head, fair head retention. Aroma of strong pumpkin, mild caramel. The taste is spice, pumkin, hints of toasted malts and vanilla. Thin bodied, lingering spice.

At a Superbowl party: Pours light amber with an off-white head. Aroma is cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin, caramel. Taste is much the same. Pretty standard pumpkin ale with a nice juicy malt backbone. Spices are all in good balance. Pretty darn good.

Bottle @ home via the old rot box. Gusher. Pours a clear, reddish brown appearance with a huge brown head. Plastic, band aid, cherry syrup, roasty aroma. Twangy, tart flavor. A little bit of chocolate and some berry/cherry notes but it’s overloaded by plastic, band aid, and medicinal notes. Awful.

375ml bottle I picked up a while back at the Franklin’s General Store. Pours a very murky, oily, black with some spitty, frothy beige head. Full disclosure, I wanted not to like this, but I did. Nose has a lot of licorice, some molasses, some black pepper, malt, the faintest bit of coffee. Flavor is sweet, plenty of licorice, plenty of molasses, black pepper is also evident, a little squid ink, some roasted mushroom, a little tobacco leaf. Big, thick, malty finish. The licorice dominates, but doesn’t over power. Probably the best beer they do.

Tasted side by side with the non BA version. The only difference was the aditional whiskey flavor.

Bottle. Clear dark brown. Aroma of Hershey’s syrup. Taste is similar. Few beer characteristics.
