Description
Wachusett Brewing Company was founded by three Massachusetts college students obsessed with the brewing culture and an appreciation for craft beer during their adventures of biking, canoeing, and hiking around New England. Armed with a “we can do this” attitude, the three cast off from their careers in engineering and biology to pursue their passion to make great beer.

22 oz. bottle from Table and Vine. I should note this was cellared at least 6 months. No bottle on date. Pours dark black with a tan head. Tan foam stays the duration. Roasted malts and barely with a nice lingering bitterness. Coffee notes. Nice level of carbonation across the tongue. Body is a bit thin however, not a big flaw. I’ve sampled many of the beers from this brewery, this and Black Shack Porter are by far the best offerings.

Bottle from Half Time. Pours hazy copper with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is mixed resin/citrus. About med body. There’s a light malt backbone, but mostly this is hoppy. Spicy/citrus followed by resin. Even a little floral I think. It also has something suggesting Belgian yeast/spice floating along the background. Maybe the hops are spicier than I thought.

Tap @ Ithaca Ale House. Clear, golden appearance with a pearl white head (and served with blueberries). Super fresh, rich, slightly tart blueberry, what malty aroma. Slightly tangy citrusy, wheat malty flavor with a fresh blueberry goodness. A touch thin.

Draft @ Yard House, Dedham, MA. Served in a pint. Excellent full white and lace real well down the glass. Nose is a ton of fruity hops, grapefruit, tangerine and citrus rind. Flavors of biscuit malt, grapefruit, light orange zest and light earthiness with a smooth, lingering moderately bitter finish. I like the flavors here. Maybe not enough bitterness for the killer hop heads but…. I really like the malt / hop balance. Glad to have found this on draft, real drinkable.

My wife brought this one back from a trip to Rochester. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy yellow-gold color with a small foamy white head that faded quickly and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was moderately sweet table sugar, blueberry, a touch of yeast and a tart and almost lactic undertone. The flavor was bread, cracker, table sugar and tart blueberries. The finish was medium length tangy blueberry and bread. Medium body. Solid.
