Poured into a mug, the appearance was a dark copper to light amber sort of color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a decent pace. Subtle lace.
The aroma blended some earthy to grassy hops, light herbal to floral qualities, hay, light toast, some nuts, sweet grains/oats, dried leaves, and had some maltballs at the very end.
The flavor blended most of that but slightly left out the maltball part as it seemed more along the lines of just milk chocolate. A little bit of sweet wood came out here. Aftertaste was mainly the herbal to floral qualities with the chocolate and earthy to grassy hops. Finish was fairly smooth with the chocolate and earthiness.
The palate was between light and medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good.
Overall, now that’s a different Irish ale. I did have it in a mug, just like they would have back in the \"day.\" Left me scratching my beard, but still, I’d have this one again.
