Draft - Dark fruits, smoke, brown sugar and yeast. Met black with a thin beige head. Raisin, dark fruit and spice, brown sugar and herbal. Nice beer, very herbal but balanced and fun.

On tap at Popeye, August 2013. Hazy golden/yellow with a medium white head. Aroma and taste of banana, wheat, some coriander and yeast. Fairly light body with not that much carbonation. An ok beer.

On tap at Kura Kura in Kanda, Tokyo. I had seen this beer highly rated online but never saw it on tap down in Kansai so I was happy to see it on the taplist! It lived up to it’s reputation pouring pitch black with a nice tan head. A classic stout look. A nice malt chocolate aroma with the flavor being sweet, chocolate, caramel and a hint of burnt chocolate. The finish was a little smokey and even had hints of bacon. Excellent. Probably the nicest stout I’ve had that was made in Japan.

Tap at the TrashZone, Yokohama. Dark brown colour with a small off-white head. Aroma of fruits, alcohol. Flavour is alcohol, dark fruits.

Draft. Very dark maroon color, almost black, brown head. Aroma of licorise and burnt espresso. Taste has anise, dark fruit, bitter cocoa. Very nice.

Tap at Gifu Beer Matsuri 2017. 7/4/7/4/15 Dark brown with orange tints and lace. Malty nose, bready, caramel, chocolate, raisins. Medium sweetness, great malt flavor, nutty and rich, with raisins, caramel, low hop but nice balance. Draught at the Sugoi beer event at Castle West, 2011. This was listed as 5.3%, though the bottled versions are advertised at 6%. Total 3.4. Very dark reddish-brown with violet shades and a fine, thick head. Fruity, malty aroma with cherry, milk chocolate, cola. Malty flavor also with cola and dark fruits and earthy, hay-like hops. Dry finish with ok bitterness. Nice and malty with good balance, though not all that exciting.

Draught at the Tanabata Beer Festa Toyama, 2010. Rather light, thin, North German style. A bit watery. Hops slightly lacking, well, not much aroma, at least, but ok bittering. Ok but boring and thin.

35 cL can, courtesy of Theis. Pours hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is distinct citrusy and grassy. Citric and fruity. Mild bitterness and sweet fruity impression into the finish.
