Draught at JCBF 2012. Wheaty nose with nice citrus hop tang, creamy. Good hop aroma. Cloudy yellow color. Nice wheat flavor, good citrus hops. Smooth and clean. Good stuff, with the flavor coming from the hops instead of weird additives. A good, original strong Wit. Good to see them coming up with a good new beer.

Draught at the Great Japan Beer Festival, Osaka, 2011. A bit dark gold, nice hoppy aroma. Really well balanced, very malt and very hoppy, a bit tangy Well-done. Very good, nice sweet, honey, biscuit thing going on the in the back behind the grassy hops.

Draught at Castle West, for the Sugoi Beer event. Medium to dark chocolate-brown color. Cloudy, looks just like a dunkelweizenbock. Big weizenbock aroma, clove, banana, chocolate, plus minerals and grass. Sweet chocolate and clove in the mouth, light esters, but big hops! Grassy, menthol, peppery, and bitter as hell. Some citrus and salts as well. A bit weird, for sure, but original and good.

Draught at the brewery restaurant. Aroma of cherry, gum ball, some caramel, citrus hops. Quite fruity, though a bit dull. Deep copper-amber flavor with a fine, thick, flat head. Nice hop flavor with caramel, cherry, grass. A reasonable PA, though not too exciting and a bit too sweet. Softly fizzy. OK.

Dark amber color. Rich lots of caramel and strawberries very hoppy. Not an IPA, but hoppy spiced red ale. Nice balance clean bitter finish. Superb. Others may disagree, but I think this is a hoppy US red ale, more so than an IPA. Whatever it is, it is very tastey.

Orange color with lace. Big citrus hop aroma. Fruity, citrus hop flavor with light wheat, especially at first, when it was almost unnoticeable. Very hoppy and refreshing, slight sour edge from the wheat, getting more as it opened up, with the somewhat typical wheat lightness. Great hops, almost like an IPA, and nicely spicy too. As it warmed, it became much more aromatic and interesting, with all kinds of tropical fruit flavors as well. Good stuff.

Lots of grapefruits and apples over wheat. Very fruit forward. Med- light body, very fruity, very fun. Fairly big bitter finish that finishes quickly. Very interesting. Not like any American wheat I’ve ever had before.

Bottle from the brewery. Amber-orange color, tall head. Rich, malty aroma, biscuits and cookies. Sweet and slightly spicy, with soft, rich, malts, and cherries, bread or cake. Hot and brandy-like. Big, full mouth that is super smooth. Alcohol is a bit too noticeable, so I would like to try it in a few months. Really an amber bock. Big, rich malt with nice fruitiness and a good overall balance. Another strong lager winner from Yokohama!

Draught at the brewery. Medium orange color with a low head. Slightly cloudy. Big noble hop nose with biscuity malt. Hops hit the palate first, grassy, with some citrus, then cracker-like malts, nice sweetness, and full body, yet crisp. Smooth. Hope flavors and bitterness come again at the finish, and they last long. Big and excellent—really nice. These guys are doing great things with unorthodox strong lagers.
