Bottle: Poured was clear with white head. Aroma is cinnamon and apple. Taste apple pie cinnamon.

Warm it up a bit first but still just meh

Slightly hazy deep copper and almost tea-coloured body with a thinnish, two centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of funk, a good deal of malts and toffee, a hint of earth and perhaps even more citrus and dry grassy notes. Light to Medium-bodied; Sour and funky citrus flavour at first dominates with some more robust earthy and nutty malt flavours, coupled with a light sweetness from the fruits, but also some grain and pungency from the malts. Aftertaste shows more tea and pungency than I expected, but not overwhelming or too strong, but more of an overt opinion of this beer - deeper and maltier than I expected, but the funky and citrus/sweet/tart flavours are still around the corner somewhere on this beer. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 24-July-2015 for US$6,99 sampled at Washington just over two years of having it in my cellar.

On tap. Black pour with that strange Guinness bubble cascade effect for a while, very light tan head. Molasses and peanut butter in the aroma. It also has the very light body of a dry stout in the vein of Guinness (though still much more flavor than that particular example). In this case the primary flavor is a pleasant peanut butter. Molasses and cocoa figure in there as well. Very light, but not bad at all.

22 ounce bottle into weizen glass, bottled in 7/2016. Pours hazy golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big orange juice, orange peel, lemon, banana, clove, pepper, light bubblegum, wheat, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of orange juice, fruity/spicy yeast, and pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big orange juice, orange peel, lemon, banana, clove, pepper, light bubblegum, wheat, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Light herbal bitterness, yeast spiciness, tangy wheat, and fruit tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of orange juice, orange peel, lemon, banana, clove, pepper, wheat, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of orange juice, fruity/spicy yeast, and pale malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from carbonation and tart/bitter/spiciness as well. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp/creamy/grainy, and lightly acidic balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 7.1%. There is a slight off flavor note in the aroma/flavors, resulting from using orange juice in the fermentation; but it’s not too prominent. Overall this is a very nice fruited hefeweizen style. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of orange juice, fruity/spicy yeast, and pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 7/2016. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red and light brownish/copper with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, raisin, plum, date, light chocolate/vanilla, cream, light herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, lactose, moderate dark fruit, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, raisin, plum, date, light chocolate/vanilla, cream, light herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and fruit tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, dark fruit, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, lactose, moderate dark fruit, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitter/tartness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/silky, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Well hidden alcohol with a mild warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a very nice fruited imperial red ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, lactose, moderate dark fruit, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Very rich and complex on malt flavors, and not overdone on the dark fruit presence. A very enjoyable offering.
