Description
We are dedicated to the entire experience of craft; from our creative food menu to our unique beers. The adventure started with creating a perfect beer, and we have kept that focus since our opening in 2005 with 31 combined rotating taps plus hard cider and a variety of wines. The Saugatuck Brewing Company (SBC) has a large family friendly pub, outside patio plus a secondary tap room dubbed “The Barrel Room” for multiple different dining and drinking experiences in one building. We operate on a 45 barrel Brew System with 960 barrels of Fermentation Space and the ability to age over 400 wood barrels at one time.

12oz bottle. Currently categorized as a"Smoked". Not really accurate, as this is a pretty straightforward Brown Ale. I’m really having to search to find any smoke among the brown sugary caramel malt tones. Approaching full bodied, rather rich and heavy with its unfiltered body. Respectable offering for sure.

Bottle shared with Niller - black coloured pour with a small tan head. Very sweet milky, sweet sickly vanilla and strawberry on the palate, kind of artificial sweetness to this, really didn’t get on with this, is just plain weird imho.

12 ounce bottle into tulip, bottled on 3/15/2014. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense and rocky tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, orange zest, floral, grass, pine, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, light char, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of deep roasted malt and citrus/pine hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, orange zest, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, light char, floral, grass, pine, and floral/roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roast/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, orange zest, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, light char, floral, grass, pine, and floral/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and robustness of citrus/pine hops and big roasted malt flavors; with a great bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy, smooth, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice double Black IPA. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops and big roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
