Bottle Clear, amber body. Off-white frothy head. Excellent lace. Barnyard aroma. Moderately biitter initital flavour. Lightly bitter finish.

Very hazy orange coloured body with a thinnish white head. Aroma of honey, alcohol, apricots, malt and coriander seed. Medium to Light-bodied; Spicey flavour up front with yeast and alcohol also very noticeable. Aftertaste still has plenty of spice and alcohol-also showing some curacao. Overall, strong-but still shows a good quality beer. It was nice to rate this rarer bottle! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 12-December-2004.

Fairly aged sample, discontinued for some time now, it seems. What the way of making was, has always been a big question. According to BES, Proef was involved Very dark brown, but with ruby shine; dark brown-yellow head, dwindling. Rich molasses nose, liquorice, some oxidation, portwine-like. Heavy, nearly burnt taste, overtaking the sweetness to roasted, syrupy concentrate. There’s a taste which MIGHT be mushrooms - or anything else, probably vegetable. Very heavy, syrupy mouthfeel, treacle or soy-sauce like. Yet it is fairly highly carbonated. Aftertaste is like ketjap, with a dash of port. Weird beer - don’t know what to think about it. Certainly not my preferred taste. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn something (mushrooms and caramel syrup) have been added to existing beer, and then boiled.

Red-amber; yellowish tinted head. Very iron-y nose, leaves, rust, galvanic. Chocolate in the taste, again iron, above sweet dark malts, a very little acidity and some unmalted grain. Good body, not heavy, iron changes the texture. Reamrkable beer, special character. But where are the hops - as it bears the coat-of-arms of a hopguild?

Bottle. Hazy orange-gold beer with a good white head. Aroma of fruit and yeast. Yeasty, citrus, and fruit (strawberry when yeast is swirled in). Malt is a bit bready and very much in background. Dry finish. A bit of a cardboard finish.

Bottle. Brownish-amber beer with a beige head. Spicey, yeasty aroma and flavor. There’s some malt backing, fruitiness (plums), and a musty/earthy finish that gets sent to the back when you swirl in the yeast. Not too sweet and not overly complex, but definately has enough to keep you going through the bottle.

Bottled. Cloudy mustard yellow. Sweet, yeasy and soft with some phenolic banana flavour. Medium bodied with a finish that just diminshes out into nothing.

Cloudy golden. Aroma of honey and yeasty with a light touch of lemon. Sweetish with dense, rounded mouthfeel and notes of nutmeg. So flowery it’s like chewing on a flower. Resiny, herbal finish.
