Bottle. Copper coloured with a decent head. Aroma is malty and spicy with some hops. Taste is malty, spicy (a hint of cinnamon?), caramell and sweetish bitter. Strong carbonation. The best Herforder beer there is but that’s not really saying a lot....

Bottle at my parents’. Pours clear light amber with white head. Aroma of fruits, bread, malt. Tastes slightly sweet with balancing bitterness. Thin to medium bodied, dry finish.

Bottle. Looks and smells like any industrial Pils from Germany should. More malts than hops. Sweet, bready, grassy. A hint of vomit and rotten vegetables. Strong carbonation. I had this numerous times when I was younger but nowadays I only drink it when there’s no other option - or when it’s for free....

On tap somewhere. Black. Decent head. The aroma of malts is very nice and mouth watering. Unfortunately the taste doesn’t have much to meet the high expectations. Thin, watery and tastes like old leather. Still drinkable though.

Can shared with Keukeman. Clear golden color, medium sized white to off-white head. Smell and taste malts, lightly bitter, a bit hayish. Typical pilsener. Ok.

Clear golden color with white head. Aroma is straw, sweet malts, grassy hops. Taste is sweet, a bit earthy, straw, weak finish. Crisp carbonation. A bit pointless, but not horrible.

0,5l bottle from Beers of Europe. Very pale golden colour, small frothy white head. Some malts and hops in the aroma but also a bit sour, cardboardy. Malt and hops flavour but rather weak, nice but could have been better.

500ml bottle: BBD 9th July. Poured into an old Schlossbrau Pils stemmed glass (three times). This beer is an old friend. I used to buy packs of 10 x 33cl stumpy bottles when I lived in Germany: bright yellow carrying boxes known as Herfy Handbags by all the Royal Air Force lads back then. Anyway back to today: mown the lawn, reward this! Pours the regular clean golden yellow you’d expect from a Lager/Pilsner, the white head hung around though, so makes a change, as they normally fade swiftly on this style of beer in my opinion. Dry compared to most German Pilsners but with the same crispness and cleanliness you’ll get from them all. Not a big aromatic or flavoursome beer, just refreshing and thirst quenching. No serious sense provoking subtleties or hidden quirks but a solid, no nonsense beer.
