Bottle shared by Dylan at SG. Pours a pitch black with a nice finger of beige foam that lingers. Big cacao forward nose, light roasted coffee, some faint berry aromas. Espresso notes on the palate, more cacao nib. Really well done coffee bomb, some light whisky notes on the finish, maybe some coconut, but not overly boozy or strong whisky notes. As the name states, the coffee shines on this one. Thanks for sharing!

Keg at Freshcraft - Denver. Pours hazy red with a creamy, pink head. Nice aroma, lots of tart berries, boysenberry, raspberry, cherry, a little funk. Light sweet flavour with mellow acidity, more brett funk, a little popcorn and butter and wheat, more cherry. Light bodied with spritzy carbonation. Tart finish, fairly quenching, with some sweet ripe cherries, mild musty funk, some jammy berries. Good stuff.

Taster at the Brass Tap. Pours black, with a small, tan head. Black cherries, earth, light pine, bitter chocolate, black pepper, and rye. Sweet, with a light, pleasant sour flavor. Medium body, with an oily, smooth, mouthfeel. Interesting, and we'll made.

On tap at First Draft, pours a hazy amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out toasted bready malt, perfume and light toffee. Flavour is very unusual, with perfume, light red wine and bready malt. Not really a good use of barrel aging. Meh.

Rich dark brown coloured with a thin tan head, about a centimetre tall. Aroma of pungent spices, grain roasted malt, oats, funk and a nice anisey bite, pungent. Medium-bodied; Strong anisey and roasted malt flavours show through first with a big dose of spices, some Chile and a funky barrell-y flavour near the end. Aftertaste shows some cinnamon and funk, but the anise and roasted malt are the strongest. Overall, a very nice flavour with a smooth robust complexity near the end, definitely good to sample on draught at the Brew Pub in Fort Collins, Colorado on 05-June-2017 for US$5,00 for five ounces.

Nice crisp amber and copper coloured body with a thin tan head. Aroma of sour fun’n some light malt and a touch of subdued fruits. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and dry flavours at first with a nice dose of funk along with a kick of fruits, showing some apples and pears. Aftertaste shows some light funk, grass, hay and a dry, light sour note that finishes well. Overall, a nice and elegant funky flavour with some light malts and a touch of grass, very easy-drinking. I sampled this five ounce pour on draught at Jessup Farm Brew Pub in Fort Collins, Colorado on 05-June-2017 for US$5,00.

Tap - I think I have certain expectations when I see "red wine barrel aged red," and this beer doesn’t meet any of them, so I’ve got to get past that to review it fairly, maybe? - it really is a straight up amber Aged in wine barrels, and as that, it’s actually pretty good - nose is subtle bread and moderate oak, with touches of red wine - moderately hoppy up front, toasty maltiness - the barrel brings gentle oak and a medium sweet red wine character - finish of toasty malt and lingering wine, with maybe a subtle funkiness to it - I like it enough to be curious to try some of their other beer.

5oz pour in the tap house. Dark brown appearance with a dark brown head. Roast, chocolate, light ashy smoke, marshmallows, and a bit of caramel in the nose. Moderate bitterness and sweetness. Medium body. The flavor is better than the aroma though it is nothing special. Mostly chocolate and char in the flavor. Clean finish. My favorite beer of the four beer flight I had here but it wasn’t all that special. The bartender recommended I try the barrel aged beers next time, but honestly, if they have trouble making a good base beer, the only reason I think I’d like the barrel aged beers is if they do a good job of covering the mediocrity and in some cases, flaws. Decent.
