Description
Empress Ale was originally created to be an easy drinking beer that was the perfect accompaniment with food. It was born from the founder’s mission to provide some of his favourite restaurants with a British-made, quality craft beer that not only complemented the varied cuisines he loved the most, but also provided an alternative to the big branded beers so commonly listed in restaurants.

Draft at the Shaking Hand, Shirley, Solihull. Poured a mostly clear medium amber with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is toffee caramel malt. The flavour is moderate sweet, light bitter, with a smooth, somewhat rich, malt, toffee caramel, burnt treacle, herbal, woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Rocky white head on an unclear amber coloured body.
Sweet malt & spiced fruit aroma.
Medium bodied, soft with cloying back.
Malt, honey, berry, caramel & berry tastes with a delicately spiced finish.
Quite a tasty one - pity it's a small bottle.

Medium bodied, foamy on tongue with a lively cloying back.
Malt, pine, grapefruit & grassy tastes.
Nicely balanced - Ike a cross between Traditional & Craft Ale.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from the Wine Cellar, Dalston. Pours clear honey-hold with a tight, frothy white head. Light sweet flavour with pleasant earth hop character, some citrus peel, a little dirty grass and pine. Light bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Clean bitterness to finish, mildly dry, more earth, soft pine. Nice one. It grew on me.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Wine Cellar, Dalston.pours well clear gold with a creamy, white topping. Modest sweetness, pale bread, a little straw, vague citrus impressions, biscuits, British yeast. Light bodied with massaging carbonation. Decent balance to finish, bit more yeast expression, bready biscuits, light bitter lemon rind. Easy-drinking gold.

Bottle picked up at Waitrose, West Byfleet. It was sat amongst some Spanish lagers and looked like it had snuck itself in. Aroma had malts and tart citrus with a yeasty streak. Clear pale gold. Foamy white head retreats to the rim. Medium bitter. Grainy. This is quickly swept aside by a wave of sugary sweetness. Citrus hints appear into the finish. Light. Thin. Fizzy carbonation. Dry finish. Crisp Pilsner style but one of those beers where I would have preferred less sweetness.
