Description
The Ægir Brewery was established by Aud Melås and Evan Lewis. The brewery was named after the god of the seas, Ægir, from the Norse Mythology. He was according to Odin the best brewer in the world.
Ægir Brewery was one of the first craft beer breweries in Norway – and definitely has the most distinctive brewpub. Inspired by Ægir´s mythological hall under the sea, the brewpub is built to give the feel of a Viking style longhouse. You have to go at least a thousand years back in time to find an atmosphere like this; open fire, dragon carvings and a stave church roof that wasn´t built in a day.
Since the start Ægir Brewery has continued to grow and in 2012 expanded with a brand-new production facility that today boasts a capacity of a million litres per year.
The export market has become very important for the brewery and makes up an increasingly large part of the yearly volume. Ægir Brewery is currently exporting to twelve different countries.
The canned beer production was moved from Flåm early in June 2023 to Amundsen Bryggeri in Oslo.

Can. Quite metallic smell, some in the flavor too. Else it's a quite nice malt driven beer. Orangey, earthy notes from the kveik, I assume. Some generic fruityness, toffee and a hint of dark chocolate. 647414 251221

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 12.0%. Cloudy deep brown colour, small beige head. Boozy and vinegary aroma, notes of blackcurrants and oak, hints of bourbon and vanilla. Fruity and slightly acidic flavour, notes of blackcurrants, hints of berry vinegar, more distinct bourbon, oak and vanilla now. Low bitterness. Not a beer I'll buy again.

Can. Lightly malty, bready with a gentle fruityness. Nothing particular going on here, no brewing errors either, fortunately. 54639 251118

Golden amber body with a dense, well laced white head. Nose features fruity hops and biscuit malt. A well blended, fresh and juicy IPA. Grapefruit, melon, and lemon notes work well with the light caramel malt.

440ml can, AB 1247, bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. Cloudy orange-reddish body, fair white head, spotty lacing. Inviting farmyard smell, hints of orange fruit. Quite well blended malt-fruity taste, soft malt, ripe orange, and kveik yeast beneath. Rounded malt-fruity tail, lightly smoked. Pretty good. (Tromsø, 14.09.2025).
