Description
The Ægir Brewery was established by Aud Melås and Evan Lewis. The brewery was named after the god of the seas, Ægir, from the Norse Mythology. He was according to Odin the best brewer in the world.
Ægir Brewery was one of the first craft beer breweries in Norway – and definitely has the most distinctive brewpub. Inspired by Ægir´s mythological hall under the sea, the brewpub is built to give the feel of a Viking style longhouse. You have to go at least a thousand years back in time to find an atmosphere like this; open fire, dragon carvings and a stave church roof that wasn´t built in a day.
Since the start Ægir Brewery has continued to grow and in 2012 expanded with a brand-new production facility that today boasts a capacity of a million litres per year.
The export market has become very important for the brewery and makes up an increasingly large part of the yearly volume. Ægir Brewery is currently exporting to twelve different countries.
The canned beer production was moved from Flåm early in June 2023 to Amundsen Bryggeri in Oslo.

Can. Slightly unclear deep reddish body with a nice tan head. Strong hoppy aroma with malt, caramel and red fruit. Flavor is nice and distinct as well, sweet malt, caramel, dry fruit, grapefruit and god bitterness. Fine body and fruity, bitter and sweet malty aftertaste. Nice like a bold, hoppy red ale. Robust and highly enjoyable.

Can from Meny. Unclear golden body with a moderate sized white head. Aroma has lots of coriander, some soap, lime, ginger and rubber. Flavor like aroma, light pale malt, lots of coriander, ginger, lime and zesty bitterness. Some elements from a Belgium Wit to be found, but quite bold and kinda freestyle on the spicy side, and that’s probably the point with reference to the name. Interesting and quite nice but I don’t think I want to have to much of this really.

Can from MENY. Unclear golden/orange body with a big white head that fades
rather fast. Nice fruity aroma of mango and tropical juice. Flavor has mild malt, bread, tropical juice and ripe fruit, decent bitterness. Medium body and rather refreshing fruity aftertaste. Nice and easy refreshing beer, this is more like a nice regular session IPA than anything one-dimensional NEIPA kind of beer, as it has a more likable malty base and refreshing bitterness. This one will probably not turn undrinkable after three weeks.

On tap at Kr4ft Fesztival. Deep brown, thin, quickly disappearing off-white head. It shows grains, sweet booze, some fruits, a touch of wood and bourbon and some sweetness that might as well be the vanilla. Closes with long lasting, warming and sweet finish, has medium to heavy body but still somehow easy to drink.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is caramel malt, toffee, nuts, almonds, dried fruits, raisins, syrup, candied prunes, spicy notes, mild oak, vanilla, with some alcohol. Flavour is quite sweet and syrupy. Body is full. Way too sweet for its own good, but aroma is nice, resulting in a decent slow sipper.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is dark malt, caramel, tobacco, sugar, chocolate, some coffee, charcoal, syrup, liquorice, candied figs, touch of molasses. Flavour is quite sweet with an above moderate bitter finish. Body is above medium. Quite sweet and a bit syrupy, could be more full, then the chocolate kicks in. Nice!
