This is really nice. Barrel adds a great aroma and comes on a little heavy, or perhaps it’s the other elements that just aren’t super strong. Belgian floral hops, some sweet malt. Pours cloudy golden with decent head and lacing. Very nice palate and leave. Some bitterness and a touch of tang that comes together well. Soft carbonation. Tap at Barhop.

Bottle: Poured an orangey color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of citrus hops with light earthy notes. Taste is also dominated by citrus hops with medium sweet malt notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Well brewed thought missing a little something to differentiate from the pack.

(Cask at Brydens, Toronto ON, June 20 2013) Pours a deep amber with a decent off-white cask froth. Aroma malty, caramel, slight roast, fresh green hops. Flavour has sweet malts, toffee and some light roasted notes, some pine, moderately bitter, fairly light finish without overpowering hops. Body light and oily, smooth cask carb. Is definitely not a black IPA, more of a black and tan. OK for what it is, given I don’t much like the brewer, but I think I’m lenient given that after 4 great beers before this I was in a forgiving mood...

(Draught at Bryden’s, Toronto ON, June 24th 2013) Pours a clear gold with a thin head of white froth, some lace. Aroma has caramel/toffee malt, floral hops with some faint tropical fruit and herbs, light yeast. On the palate, sweet caramel malt, light Belgian bready/fruity yeast character, some NZ-type grassy/fruity hop character to start. Yeast builds through the palate but hops are fairly restrained, and while it dries somewhat at the finish that is mostly from alcohol. Body is medium-full and oily, carbonation fairly soft and smooth, alcohol pronounced. This came in a full-size glass and for once I’d rather wished it was smaller, boozy... An interesting beer, not really a traditional DIPA, kind of stranded between styles. Thought a bit more aggressive hopping was needed.

Single from the LCBO and first Sawdust for me. Pours a rich golden-amber colour with a frothy white cap that stays long and gives out thick bubbly lacing. Beautiful fresh hop nose with some grass and grapefruit citrus. Hints of sweet fruits and burnt malts eventually come out. Wet mouthfeel, but well-balanced with some light dryness from the hop and great bitterness. Behind the pine-grapefruit is fine malt balancing everything with notes of grains. This is pretty well-brewed West Coast IPA. Highly recommended.

Bottle form the LCBO. Pours hazy orange with a white finger sized head and slight lacing. Great piney aroma. Good upfront hops but has an abrupt finish. Very drinkable and much better than I expected from its current score.
