Tap at GJBF Osaka 2016. Very nice, malty nose with good smoke. Amber-brown color, clear. Flavors of chocolate, caramel, nice malt, light to medium smoke. Clean, good stuff. --- Beer merged from original tick of Smoke Beer on 24 May 2014 at 22:41 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. Original review text: Draught at Craft Beer Live 2014. Big bacon nose. Smoke itself it somewhat light but lots of bacon. A bit too sweet, with caramelized ham ro bacon, some moke and some chocolate. Solid stuff.

Tap at GJBF Osaka 2016. Caramel nose, light earthy hops. Cloduy amber color with a fine head. Decent flavor, ok malt, lightly hopped. Plain but balances.

On tap at GJBF 2016. A nice looking orange brown with a thick beige head and a mild malty aroma -probably served too cold. A lovely malt forward flavor: bready, nutty, bitter, but possibly a bit of diacetyl hiding there too so I’ll give it. 3.3

Tap at Takumiya. PRetty golden-orange color, cloudy, with lace. Rather plain nose, banana, clove, peach. Faint. Tart flavor, some orange, apricot, banana. Decent, but light and a bit bland. Ok for summer, but a bit lacking.

Light brown, thin head. Light smoky nose. Thin body, smoke taste but there’s no good malt character behind it, just thin and sort of husky stuff. Not enough support for such non-distinguished smoke.

Tap at the Kyoto Craft Beer Garden in Kitaoji Vivre. A thick orange pour with a bready fruit aroma. The taste is a similar honeyed graininess to the smoke but much more fruity which I think makes it more balanced. Their beers seem to be very malt driven.

Bottle won at Craft Beer Live 2016. It’s an opaque honey gold so I guess that means it’s European in style. The aroma is biscuit, bready and, mild butterscotch. Light bodied with a prickly carbonation and very dry finish the taste is bready, honey, a bit of butterscotch with a bitting herbal hop note in the finish. It’s ok.

These guys have now rebranded as Tango Kingdom Craft Beer. As we don’t see them too much I gave their weizen a try.
It pours an opaque gold with a filmy white head and an eggy tangy fruit and sulfur aroma. Medium bodied and raspy the finish is a bit watery but it delivers lots of cloves plus mild banana/bubblegum so the flavor is pretty good. Decent enough.

Draught at Craft Beer Live 2014. Nice malty nose, rich and grainy, not exactly rye, but full-on. Pretty, cloudy golden color with lace. Lovely malt flavor, rich, sweet, a bit of spicy rye, some grassy hop and peppery, nicely bitter finish. Full body. Reminds me of a fresh Munich Helles but with a touch of rye. Great.
