Brewed at Kirin's Shiga Factory and drunk in a tasting set at SVB Kyoto, On the cloud 5.5% 23 IBU A wheat beer but too clear to be a Weizen as it is a pale straw gold. Lemon candy hop aroma which I guess is from the Nelson Sauvin the menu mentions. Tangy line/lemon, light bodied and dry with a crisp finish. This is a bit too gassy but close to what the Pilsner should have been.

Jazzberry 5% 15 IBU Brewer with a wine yeast and raspberry according to the menu which gives it an orange-pink color. Raspberry syrupy sweet aroma. Light bodied and dry. The taste is all raspberry with pale light malts, a bit jammy. Considering the wine yeast this seems simple and dull, also overly carbonic and gassy.

Tap at SVB Kyoto in the tasting flight but brewed at their Shiga Factory. Daydream 5% 16 ibu Made with yuzu and sansho, the cloudy gold brew definitely delivers those aromas as well as honey notes. Very perfumy and floral. The beer is light bodied and super dry. The taste is honey yuzu drink and sansho pepper in the finish. Too dry and carbonic for me but ok.

Worst of the bunch.Tasting Set at Spring Valley Kyoto, brewed in Shiga. Grainy sweet aroma, taste is the same on a medium full body. Tastes like a decent macro-lager but not a crisp dry Pilsner.

Tap at Spring Valley Kyoto but brewed at Kirin's Shiga factory. 496 IPA? IPL? Pale ale? 6.5% 45 IBU They don't seem to know what style it is so I will decide for them, some oily type of budget pale ale. Copper color with a mild pine hop bouquet with some honey sweet malt notes. The medium body is slick in texture and reminds me of low-end IPAs shipped without refrigeration- think an IPA where the hops have faded or a really budget macro-IPA, if released in the 1980s it could've been something.

Pours darker orange, edging on amber a bit. Not much foam there. Nose is secretive, only a hint of spices, not giving much away of this beer. These hops do taste interesting. Body of this beer feels relatively heavy, although abv is quite modest. Malts are strong but these hops are also characterful, somewhat grassy, somewhat herbal - but soft and non-intruding. Fruity and some candy sweetness coming out in the finish. I am now somewhat at a loss, I do like the use of local hops and this is also the most definitely an IPA. At the same time, it feels with not much depth and hops are coming-out only once. I am not sure if this is because of the hops variety used or how the beer was made. Overall, OK I guess.

Pours clear golden, amber-ish hue to it. Hops are there, fruity and a bit tropical, overall, not very strong. Taste is also exhibiting some hop characteristics but not much there to show, kind of limp. Kind of remind me these Kirin’s IPA’s I can find from convenience stores. Not bad but not yet there. Keep trying!

Nice yellow golden pour, not very foamy. Aroma has slight grain character, bit of hay. Taste is full on malty, bready and grainy, a bit of crisp bitterness there as well, works wonders with official cucumber pairing. Saaz hops seem to work with cucumber quite nicely. Finish is short. Well, I would say this one is quite OK pilsner, nothing special but decent.

Pours dark brown, not very foamy. Aroma has some cocoa, mainly dark roast, and also lots of coffee. taste is bringing out even more coffee, really a coffee bomb. Not much bitterness, some tartness even, Smells much sweeter than it actually is. Slight roast bitterness lingering in the finish. Pretty good actually, surprising.

Hazy yellow, hazy and not very foamy. Looking like a normal wit bier would look like. Nose quite subtle, maybe a bit of Belgian yeast there, not much. Taste is slightly spicy, some sweetness and yeast character. Quite drinkable and well, can’t really complain, as a drinkable wheat, this one works nicely. Interesting pairing with an olive, some bitterness from olive goes together with bitter elements from that beer.
