Description
Johann Gottfried Glauner decided in 1877 to put the local, closed-down brewery, back on its feet. He sent his son, Karl Albert, to Weihenstephan to learn the skills of beer brewing. Karl returned in 1880 as a master of his trade and with all the energy of his young years, determined to brew "the best beer far and wide". It was indeed a beer destined to outlive its numerous local competitors. To this day the Alpirsbacher beers have lost nothing of their popularity... and the Glauner family continues to brew their excellent beer in Alpirsbach in the fourth generation.

Bottle, 0.33l. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, grass and flowers. Pours clear ruby brown color with medium sized creamy tan-like head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts with medium sweet caramel and dandelion syrup, following is lightly roasted and grassy, mouthfeel is smooth, while finish is average bitter. Medium body, slick texture and average carbonation in palate. Nice one…

Little bit darker than most helles, but still nice and clear straw, firm frothy white head. Smells slightly toasty, soft. Light and easy body, maybe a bit too light. Soft. Taste is easy, nice and soft bitterness going on, some maltyness. Very easy.

0.5 l bottle from local 'Getränke Hoffmann', 7.3% abv, best before October 2024. Clear, golden with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, malty, slightly floral and moderately grassy aroma of grains, some straw and light honey. Quite sweet, malty, gently bitter, moderately floral and a bit grassy taste of grains, honey and some straw, followed by a short, gently bitter finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Solid Bock, nicely balanced, maybe a bit monotonous.
