Bottle. Medium brown with lace. Nose is caramel, treacle, raisin, cinnamon. Rich malt flavor, ltos of cognac, treacle, raisins, cinnamon. Good stuff.

Shiga Kogen Fresh Hop IPA 6.5% Matte gold with a thick rocky head that lingers and a slightly fruity but mostly herbal hop bouquet that smells quite fresh. Medium to full bodied with a slight citrus up front then big herbal green vegetal bitterness. I kind of get the feeling these are a Japanese grown C-hop like cascade or centennial. Definitely one of the nicer domestic fresh hop beers. Roughly 600¥ to boot. From 2022.
2025 version:
Shiga Kogen Fresh Hop IPA 6.5%
Nice light gold color with smfluufyvwhute foam that was gone fast. Light bodied and crisp the overall feel is bitter but balance. Nice stuff, much more enjoyable than the Fresh hop ale.

Shiga Kogen Fresh Hop Ale 5% Now THIS smells like fresh hops with loads of fresh herbal lemony goodness. There seem to be loads of tiny yeast floaters and the color is kind of a dull gold. Not this best looking brew but it’s got a nice head of light beige foam. Medium to full bodied, crisp and dry. Herbal and earthy hops with none of the brightness from the aroma. Alright but further evidence no one has managed to grow really nice hops in Japan yet. Drunk in 2023.
2025 version looks better:

I think this may be new this year. From the bottle I got an earthy/woodsy and lemon aroma but from the glass it gives you more of the earthy bitter aroma.
It’s medium to full bodied and quite a bit bitter, earthy and green with not much fruity hop notes at all. It’s ok.

I didn’t even know they’d released a fresh hop grisette! Shiga Kogen Fresh Hop Grisette 4.5% Bottle from CBB Mother Tree. Tangy saison white pepper aroma on a soft golden body with wispy white foam. Medium bodied this is in the tangy saison field.

It’s fine but it’s not that exciting. IPA with a whisky kick but that’s about it. Was still remembering the taste the next day though, so maybe I was being a bit harsh

Shiga Kogen Shinshu Jihen Apple IPA 6.5% Orange gold color with minimal foam. It’s got an attractive juicy hop bouquet with prickly pear elements. Medium bodied with a dry finish. The taste is surprisingly tart apple with vanilla wafer flavors. Interesting brew.

Shiga Kogen Morning Mist Hazy Session IPA 4.5% Very pale straw gold with thick rocky eggshell white foam. It has a nice hoppy aroma with tropical notes and soda bread maltiness. So light bodied that at times it seems watery. The taste isn’t terribly juicy or hoppy, it’s more bitter green herbal and vegetal. This is just ok, considering it was like 800¥ I was expecting more. This is not the juice bomb of a hazy I was gearing up for. More a session beer without enough body for my tastes.
