Black Isle was started by David Gladwin in 1998. An unemployed beer lover, he set out to make world-class beer using barley and hops, grown on organic farms, without the use of destructive chemicals. Black Isle Brewing Co is Scotland’s only organic brewery; pioneering craft beer from our beautiful, wild - and sometimes wet - Highland home. A very lively bottle bought at a Real Food store in Edinburgh. Light-brown, dense head over a jet black body with a russet tint. Firm smell of coffee and chocolate. Taste of sweet dark malts, slightly roasted and spiced. Nuts and bitter dark chocolate towards the ending. A bit too light in the mouth [hotel room, 24.10.2008].

Bottle 33cl. at home.[ Trade with cgarvieuk ]. Clear medium orange color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, white head. Aroma is moderate malty, fruity, moderate hoppy, orange acidic sweet, light to moderate yeasty. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [150908]

Bottle, 4.6%. OK fruity aroma. Mildly roasted, hint of coffee. Seemingly clear almost black colour. The flavour is nicely roasted, quite mild. Mild fresh coffee notes, freshly brewed.

Bottle, 4.5%. Good vinous and sweet caramelly aroma. Hint of spicy aroma hops. Hazy amber colour. The flavour is nice and sweet, some sweet hoppiness, hint of spices, cinnamon. Sweet citrus fruits.

50 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with a fully gone head. Roasted malty and slight liqourice note in the aroma. Bitter and acidic hardroasted malty with a nice mix of liqourice, coffee and a bit of chocolate smoothness. Nice bitter and roasted malty finish.

From tap at Stockbridge Tap. Pours clear and golden orange with a white head. Aroma is slight malty and towards cornish. Flavour is medium dry cornish with a light bitterness showing through. Malty,cornish and somewhat mild spiced flavoured with a light bitterness. Light fruity into the far finish.

A lightly hazed light blonde al with a thin off white head. A bizarre aroma of honey and chalk, boiled vegetables and mashed peas. In mouth, lactic acid with light honey remnants, light malt and body. Shared with Mike H. early 2007.
