Description
Ingewikkelde processen. Steriel werken. Tuinslang door de keuken om te koelen. Gistingsvat gedurende aantal weken in de living (kamertemperatuur you know).
Oefenen. Cursus volgen bij brouwerij Alvinne. Proberen in de keuken. Meebrouwen in brouwerij de Leite. Meebrouwen bij Alvinne. Proberen in de keuken. Inox gistingsvat kopen. Bijsturen. Dry-hoppen uitproberen.

The hoppy one in the second series of artisanal beers produced by this company in Waregem, steinie bottle from De Hopduvel. Very stable, eggshell-white, frothy, tightly cobweb-lacing, thick head on an initially completely crystal clear, warm 'old gold' coloured beer with vivid sparkling; misty apricot blonde with sediment. Aroma of half-dry grapefruit peel, fresh lemon thyme, fresh white bread dough, green bananas, unripe peach, dark green moss, pine resin somewhere, toasted onions, raw parsnip, wormwood leaf, hints of green melon, apple peel and tonic water. Fruity onset, sweetish with sourish edge from the lively carbonation, green banana, ripe pear, unripe peach and Granny Smith apple slices, very minerally effects again from the carb, supple, bit glueish body; white bread crust and soggy peanut effects from the malts, with ongoing fruity notes and upcoming spicy phenols, but the hops take over before things get out of hand, delivering a very floral, lightly grapefruity and very lightly piney aroma retronasally as well as a fruity, leafy bitterness that mingles with the softness of the malts, esters and sheer breadiness from the yeast. Ends indeed hoppy, in a 'noble', herbal (thyme) and leafy, but also subtly New World-like, grapefruity and oniony way, while soft breadiness flows on. Typical 'Belgian IPA' I reckon, but calling it a 'hoppy blonde' is probably a safer choice if you're trying to make your way on the Belgian consumer market; the balance between old school Belgian yeastiness on the one hand and New World hoppiness on the other hand is clearly more tilted towards the first than the latter, but at least it delivers enough hoppiness to justify the name 'Hoppy Blond'. Quite alright, this one. --- Beer merged from original tick of Bier N°2 Hoppy Blond on 24 Oct 2020 at 01:02 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6. 33cl bottle from Hopduvel, Gent. A slight gush on opening the bottle, then a slow pour reveals a billowing white and an unappealing opaque light brown body; yeasty aroma; smooth and grainy in the mouth with a grapefruity citrus taste; and a pleasant citrus finish. Not too bad if you keep your eyes closed.

Bottle. No gusher. Pours unclear blonde. Good white head. Smell is dry, bitter, malty. Taste is bit bitter, mild grainy’ Sharp , and rediculously overcarbonated. Once again, an ok beer ruined by overcarbonation

15/IX/15 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) - BB: IX/2016 (2015-1192)

Slow gusher!
Little cloudy orange to amber beer, huge frothy off-white head, unstable, falls down quickly, bit adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, sweet, some pineapple, bit chemical, band-aid. MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: chemical, pretty bitter, rubbery, some fruity notes in the background, with citrus and some grapefruit, funky. Aftertaste: bit sweet, overripe fruits, pretty bitter, malty touch, oxidized, orange peel, chemical bitterness, unpleasant.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Clear rusty orange color, average sized quickly diminishing off-white head. Smell and taste malts, actually more hoppy than I had expected, a little sweetish and a hint of fruits. Moderately bitter, firm carbonation, decent body. Not bad in the end.

Bottle @ benzai. Hazy orange colour with a medium sized white head. Smells farty, herbs, spices. Tastes hoppy, sweet, actually decent but the carbo kinda destroys that. Medium body, heavy carbo.

330 ml. bottle sampled. Purchased @ De Hopduvel. The second beer from this new commission brewery. Brewed at ‘t Gaverhopke which is never a good thing in my opinion since that brewery struggles heavily with infection issues. Virtually all their offers are guaranteed to gush & taste unpleasant. I have tried their first beer prior to this one, the bottle started gushing in the store simply because I placed it in my cart. I am a bit worrisome here. To be honest, I wouldn’t have probably purchased this one if I had noticed that it had been brewed at ‘t Gaverhopke. The label is just black on white text, meh… It has been by De Molen in a far more iconic fashion. BBF 09/2017. Surprisingly the beer was only a small gusher. Unsurprisingly given the fact that this one was a gusher, the first pour resulted in just a big glass of foam. The foam consists out of huge white bubbles, quickly collapsing. Revealing a very hazy golden beer. Nose is a touch heavy on the yeast, thick creamy yeast dominates with some esters, faintly boozy peach esters & oddly a touch aromatic fruity hops. The yeast presence is a bit too heavy & somewhat plaster-like for the beer to come across fully. Taste is bitter but for a good chunk not in a very pleasant way, lingering bitter mainland EU-hop hops, it comes across lightly chemical, yeast-heavy with some fusels, ester-heavy, orange peel, some honey, pepper, fizzy, overly-Belgian, caramel, yeast,… Oily & caramel quality. Body is a bit low on carbonation to hold it entirely together. The bitterness lingers a bit but the sweetness becomes more prominent as you drink more of it. Whilst the nose was overly yeast for my preference,… The taste surprisingly agreeable, I definitely expected worse but it is messy and it isn’t a very successful typical common dominator Belgian Ale with an extra dose of hops. Still it has some nice qualities, I have definitely had far worse beers brewed at this brewery. Overall it is messy & not very successful but manageable for sure and that is already something. Plus it is vastly preferable to Angelus Bier N°1 Triple.
