Description
Twin Sails Brewing joined Port Moody’s “Brewers Row” late in 2015, opening right next door to Yellow Dog. The name of the brewery refers to its founders, identical twin brothers, as well as the common sight of sailboats that can be seen on the waters of the Burrard Inlet right out front of the brewery. Twin Sails focuses on progressive American IPAs and stouts and have recently implemented a wild barrel program. They are always trying to push the boundaries of what can be done with beer in BC. Quality comes first and foremost, but in the end, it’s just a bunch of guys and girls having way too much fun brewing beer.

12oz @ home shared with Alex. Appearance: brown with a beige head. Aroma: nice bourbon barrel with some maple notes. Taste: along the same lines with more prominent maple and a nice charred barrel. Thin compared to the previous years. Overall: good, but not as good as the two previous batches.

16oz @ home shared with Alex. Appearance: brown with a tan head. Aroma: roasted malts and cocoa, some grassy notes. It reminded me of Str8 cause of that grassy character. Taste: along the same lines, finishes with some cocoa nibs earthiness and grassy bitterness. Overall: ok.

On tap at Steamworks- Mt Pleasant, pours a cloudy bright peachy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is loaded with lactose upfront, followed by a touch of orange and barely a trace of hops. Flavour is muddled, with lactose, earthy hops, and some pulpy orange. Useless stuff - messy, nothing pleasant about it.

Blond colour, slightly hazy. Bready aroma. Mild bread flavour, it's dry, the body is ok, the bitterness is ok, but it's still rather boring.

Murky blond colour. The hop character is mostly citrus peel; the mouthfeel is a bit chalky; the bitterness also comes as pith. Dirty but drinkable, definitively lacking a better hop expression.

355 ml can. Pours a very dark brown with full tan head. Strong aromas of nutmeg, allspice, and cinnamon overpower vanilla and roasted malts. Flavors follow same on a thin roasted malts base.

On tap. Pours dark brown with little head. Thin Porter like beer with a bit of nuttiness. Otherwise nothing to write home about

473mL can, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out gentle dark dried fruits, some toasted malt, and a touch of molasses. Flavour is mostly a function of the figs, with some molasses along for the ride, and maybe a touch of metallic character. Not the most complex, but decent for a 6.5% stout. Finishes fairly low on the sweetness, which makes it reasonable drinkable. Fairly good for what it is.
