Description
HIISI was founded in 2013, to fill a rather selfish need; We want to brew beers that we’d like to drink ourselves. Even if we do this for a living now, we still consider ourselves hobbyists of beer – it’s the flavor and meaningfulness of the beer that counts. We believe that, instead of just a beverage and means of intoxication, beer is an experience. Beer should be aromatic, nuanced and balanced, multi-sensory by nature. In addition to brewing great beer, we want to enjoy ourselves. We are here to develop interesting concepts with interesting people. We enjoy translating Finnish mythology and its lesser-known aspects into beers with character. We look for new ingredients and processes to continuously improve our craft and knowhow. We study, we try. We make our own. We will not educate others on the importance of rules, as we often do not follow them ourselves. We don’t concern ourselves with the reinheitsgebot, and we do not consider ourselves to be above any style of beer. That’s HIISI. Beer, against boredom.

Bottle at Bryggeri, Helsinki. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy off white head. The aroma is grassy hop, light malt. The flavour is medium bitter with a grassy nettle pine needle light spice hop palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A great example of the style.

Bottle at the Bryggeri, Helsinki. Poured a hazy dark amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is grassy nettle light resin hop. The flavour is medium bitter with a woody nettle resin light metallic hop bitter palate and a short bitter finish. Medium bitter with soft carbonation. The aroma was great, but it went a little downhill after that.

Many thanks to rosenbergh! Batch #26. Dark malty in the beginning, very intense, nicely bloomy-bitter, fresh hops with dark roasted beer. The aftertaste is intense, dry-roasted, slightly sweet, intense bitter.

Bottled@PBF IX. Hazy golden colour, not too much head. Aroma is mild acidic wood, yeast, some wood and mild herbal notes. Flavour is similar, but also has some strange sweetness to it. Somewhat messy.

33 cl bottle @ PBF Ⅸ. Batch #22: BBE 15.06.2014
Aroma is a bit musty with apricot. Flavour has apricot, some gooseberry bush leaves and hints of grapefruit. The hops feel a bit old but this is decent anyway.
