Description
The history of the Hofbräu brewery goes back to the 14th century. The acquisition of the “Prew-Haus” on the town square in 1487 by Peter Turmair is considered to be the birth of the Hofbräu brewery. Josef Neumeyer and his son Joseph run the Hofbräu brewery in the 6th and 7th generation, respectively. The Hofbräu beer is traditionally brewed exclusively from regional raw materials.

Bottle, thanks Fin. Cloudy, milky amber, lowish fizzing head. Allspice, clove, sulphur and minerals in the nose. Medium light body, dry iron/blood entry, strong spring-water notes. Bready, banana, aged eggs. A bit weird, maybe a off bottle?

Bottle, thanks Fin! Amber, low carbonation, offwhite head. Chewy grainy malt, some juiciness, herbal and metallic bitter hop finish, lightly fishy even.

Bottle picked up directly from the brewery in Abensberg after a 90km return trip cycle ride last Saturday. Had this at home sat outside in the garden listening to Friday 21st August 2020 listening to Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever - Sideways to New Italy. Pours almost orange (cloudy of course) in colour with a big proud stable head, looks great. Lots of banana on the nose. Good balance to this, wheaty and fruity taste, smooth, tasty, really refreshing. Very nice indeed.

Bottle picked up from the brewery and consumed at home Sunday 16th August 2020 listening to Fairport Convention - Nine (it would have been Fairport's Cropredy Convention this weekend) and making a Pesto Hollandaise Sauce for our steaks tonight as well as making Zwetschgentopf and Zwetschgen-Zimt- Schnecken. Pours clear warm gold, excellent clarity white head atop. Sweetness but also with a good bitterness, the strident hoppy claim on the bottle is correct, it's got a good hoppiness, it's malty, really good.

50cl Flasche, vielen Dank an koelschtrinker fürs Auftreiben. Das Bier im Glas ist klar, golden mit kleinen Hefepartikeln und hat eine mittelgroße beige Schaumkrone. Der Geruch ist plörrig süß malzig, süß getreidig und kaum hopfig. Der Geschmack ist leicht säuerlich malzig, getreidig, estrige Noten, Stroh, kaum Bitterkeit. Leider stört die leichte Säure. Naja.

Bottle, thanks as ever, to Kolschtrinker. Pours clear bright gold, medium white head. Pils malt on the nose. Taste is fairly clean, light, a little thin perhaps, lightly sweet.. lacks a little life it has to be said.

500ml bottle, thanks to Kolschtrinker. Pours unclear, hazed golden yellow, frothy white head. Fresh, fragrant aroma with banana hints. Taste continues along similar lines, nice balance of flavour, not overly sweet. Good hefe.

Milder, dunkel karamelliger Beginn. Weich, hohe Süffigkeit, die Bannigkeit fährt zurück, das Bier wird fast wässrig. Mild malzig, minimale Herbe, langer Abgang, in dem die Hefigkeit wieder zulegt. Leicht kräutrig. 10/8/9/9/7/9

Harzig bitterer Beginn ohne Karbonisierung. Trocken herber Mittelteil, deutlich malzig, kräutrig. Unangenehm bitteres Ende, die fehlende Karbonisierung stört ebenfalls. Mal was Anderes... 8/7/7/6/8/7
