Description
Hornbeer is a farmhouse brewery founded in the beginning of 2008 by Gunhild and Jorgen Fogh Rasmussen. The first brewery was very small, brewing only 300 liter batches. But end of July 2008 the brewery burnt down to the ground. Now Gunhild and Jorgen had to start again from scratch. In January 2009 the new brewery started operations. Nowadays the production is around 2000 hl/year. Hornbeer is well known for a very different assortment. Hornbeer´s philosophy is that the beers should be distinctive but still very drinkable.

On tap at Århus Ølfestival. A slightly hazy orange-golden beer with a small, off-white head. Sweetish and malty on the nose, with a tiny note of cooked vegetables in the background. Sweet and fruity in the mouth, with a nice citrusy hoppyness giving a pleasant bitterness. Fullbodied, with a fruity finish. A dangerously quaffable, un-complex and pleasant beer. (080516)

On tap at Århus Ølfestival. An almost clear, quite dark brown beer with a beige head. Smoked, bacon-ish, malty aroma with caramel. Medium to full, mellow mouthfeel with flavors of smoked malt, sweetness, caramel and a little unwanted touch of metal. Sweet, smoked finish. Maybe a bit sweet overall, but a nice beer. Rating: 7-4-7-4-15-3.7. 080516

Bottle. A small, beige head sits on top of an unclear, brown body. Smoked, bacon-like nose with some fruityness. Bacon, caramel, hints of dried fruits, and roasted malts in the flavor. Full body. Slightly smoked finish with caramel and some roasted notes. A pleasant smoked beer, almost as good as Schlenkerla Märzen. 110107

On tap at Århus Ølfestival. It pours an almost clear amber to brown body with a small beige head. Caramel, roasted malt, some weak notes of chocolate and yeast in the aroma. Caramel, roasted malt and some fruits in the finish, with a mostly sweet finish. Medium body. A bit weak on flavor and aroma, and quite boring. Sure drinkable though. (080516)

Bottle at Chris_o birthday bash 08. The colour you would expect a wit to be, gold/green with thin off white head. Soapy. Not great, bit empty. Not off, just very light. Some lemon. OK. But not one of the better wits.

Huge, dense white head, speckled with tiny UFO’s over clean amber ale. Very hoppy nose, USA hops and mint, freshly plucked. Bitter, hoppy flavour, severy, nearly metallic. Well-carbonated, medium bodied. Bit surprising, but generally pleasing ale.
