Description
Hornbeer is a farmhouse brewery founded in the beginning of 2008 by Gunhild and Jorgen Fogh Rasmussen. The first brewery was very small, brewing only 300 liter batches. But end of July 2008 the brewery burnt down to the ground. Now Gunhild and Jorgen had to start again from scratch. In January 2009 the new brewery started operations. Nowadays the production is around 2000 hl/year. Hornbeer is well known for a very different assortment. Hornbeer´s philosophy is that the beers should be distinctive but still very drinkable.

Malty and toasted malty aroma, toffee, chocolate, a lot more chocolate like notes that I had expected. lots of caramel too. low on belgian yeasty notes. Also quite malty. Pretty good, but unlike the belgian ones. 6/10
flavor is malty, flowery, toffee, slightly metallic - could be the hopping. 6/10

Aroma is hoppy, qute fruity , fruity bitter. 6/10
flavor is juicy, fruity hoppy, herbal bitter hoppy. 6/10
The beer seems to be a bit ripe fruity bitter and although it is quite hoppy it never really gets away from being too non-hoppy bitter. The bitterness is almost a bit bretty,
when i think of it that way it gets a bit better - like a belgian ipa or something.

Very fruity hoppy aroma, papaya, mango, pineapple - all hoppy in nature but very exotic fruity. Flavor is also very exotic fruity hoppy. palate a bit watery, overall a pretty likeable and fruity hazy ipa that is not so hazy - almost between normal IPA and hazy ipa. I like that. Also has a slight bitterhoppy ending unlike many hazy ipa's.

bottle from hornbeer. made with energy from burning oil, which is a lot less polluting (in the local area) than burning wood, to get the same amount of heat. pours dark brown, settles nearly black. light brown head. really nice solid aroma of roasted malts and chocolate.a little bit of smoked malts. fairly simple but well proportioned and super nice aroma. flavor has more smoked malts, more roasted malts, fainter chocolate, fainter brown sugar. end is equally roasted malty with a hopping that is almost not noticeable but probably adds to a sharp ending. also fainter, very faint nuances and notes like dried dark fruits, charred wood. pretty good, solid old-fashioned imp.stout. the alc. is fairly well hidden.

Backlog 4/10-2013. Unclear dark orange body under a small off-white head. Fruity aroma with malt. Taste is sweet and slightly harsh with malt and ripe fruit. Drinkable but nothing interesting going on. Medium body and same aftertaste.
