Mayfield Farm, Hewish, Weston-super-Mare, BS24 6RQ, England
Description
Good clean traditional farmhouse cider served from oak barrels.
It all started way back in 1977 when I made a chance remark to my Grandmother. I had been showing a keen interest in my Grandfather’s cider-making equipment which lay dormant at Stonehouse Farm in Kenn, North Somerset and mentioned that one day I would love to have a go at making some cider. My Grandmother’s response was to say “Well, all the cider making equipment is out in the shed. If you’d like to restore the old mill and press you’re welcome to have a go!” That really was the start of it.

Bag-in-a-box at the Siren's Calling, Portishead 4/10/2019. Deep gold in colour and flat. Big bitter-sweet apple character, with plenty of tartness, a rustic edge and some juiciness upfront. Good.

BIAB at Bristol Cider Shop, as Medium Dry. Hazy yellow gold colour, no head and aroma of mucky apple. Taste is fruity apple, horseblanket funk, some vingear and hay hints, with light tannin. Medium bodied, low carbonation, semi-dry funky & tannic finish. Quite drinkable.

Box @ Cellar Bar, Chester. Pours hazy gold, aroma of sour funk. Taste is generally sour with some apple fruit that emerges more as you accustom yourself to it. Not bad.

Cask (backlog). Hazy golden colour, no head. Aroma is ripe apples along with some tartness from green apples. Flavour is similar apple elements along with wooden and some slight alcohol and mild yeast notes to it. Refreshing and pleasant.

Draught@HBF2016. Golden colour, no head. Aroma is rather sweet apples, on the verge to ripe apples, some slight nectary notes. Flavour is sweet apples, with mild green apple skins and overall rather sweet. Manages to hide the ABV rather well, as there isn’t any alcohol sweetness to it imho.
