At Strathcarron Brewery we like to keep things simple and straight forward. Our aim is to produce the best quality traditional beer (or Real Ale) that we can. Probably the best way to do this is to stay small and independent.

500ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, April 24. Thanks Simon for lugging this back from your break in the Highlands! Strange that there's no info on the bottle as to what exactly this beer is. Pours black, off-white head. Some definite smoky hints on the nose, continuing to taste. Has a dry stout feel rather than a shilling type affair. Chocolatey. Not bad but get the feeling the smoke is unintended.

29th April 2024; Monthly Beer Share in Chez Sophie (Shrewsbury), five guys and loads of beer! Cheers Simon for the 500ml bottle of this; pours black with a beige head. My thoughts were that it tasted like half an 80 Shilling and half a Porter rather than a Stout. Slight peaty, smokiness in there too.

500ml bottle as Highland Cow from Eilean Donan gift shop - hazy brown body, lasting white top. Nose is fruity malt and caramel, dark fruits and raisins in the taste, Dundee cake nuttiness with a bit of bitterness at the end. Decent stuff.

Bottle as Bo Ghaidhealach, from the Misty Bottle, Skye. It pours hazy dark brown with a fizzy, dissipating khaki head. The aroma is earthy roast, dark berries, blueberry, blackberry, jam, fruit cake, cacao, bourbon biscuits and nutty vibes. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, good depth of fruit, berries and also dried fruits, blackberry, blueberry, raisin, fruit cake, dry wood, leather, spice, dry leaves, toothy and chewy vibes with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and moderate, fizzy carbonation. I actually quite like it. Nice depth of fruit.

Bottle on the train back from Inverness, thanks to Ginge, 11/10/21. Lightly hazed amber with a beige head that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is stewed fruits, toffee, grains, nutty. Taste comprises brown bread, dried fruits, toffee, stewed fruit esters. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Passable affair.

Bottle picked up at Culloden. It pours clear pale brown with a medium, foamy beige head. The aroma is soft, sweetish, caramel, brown bread, fruit cane, earth and toasted nut. The taste is dry, woody, bitter, earthy, toasty grain, brown bread, leather, nut and dull caramel with a drying finish. Lighter end of medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Fine for what it is.

Bottle from Culloden (what a find!) . It pours clear blonde with a thick, foamy white head. The aroma is quite soft, floral, elderflower, toasty grain, cereal and biscuit. The taste is crisp, dry, toasty grain, straw, floral, touch of spice, grass and straw with a dry finish. Average body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Not bad. A fair enough blonde Ale, which won't set the set the world alight...

26/8/2019. Sample courtesy of danlo, cheers Ed! Pours slightly hazy pale gold with a small bubbly white head. Aroma of malt, citrus, flowers, caramel, vanilla and light grain and veg. Medium plus sweetness and light bitterness. Moderate body, slight oily and watery texture. Ok.
