Description

Bottle at De Koffer, Groningen. Aroma is oak, whiskey, red fruits, cherries, dark malt, chocolate, mild smoke, some vanilla. Flavour is about medium sweet. Body is above medium. Very smooth and nicely balanced, not extreme in any way, just rich and well-balanced. Well done Bax.

Bottle at home. Aroma is malt, caramel, coffee, sweet raisins, touch of dark chocolate and nuts. Flavour is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. Okay ’coffee Dubbel’, however it’s a lot thinner than what I’d hoped for.

Bottle from Kisjes Slijterijen, Meppel. Aroma is hoppy with strong herbal tea, malt, touch of licorice, more herbal notes, black tea, only a mild touch of fruits. Flavour is light to moderate sweet with a harsh unbalanced bitterness in the finish. Body is medium. Certainly likeable, I dig me a proper herbal tea IPA, but the harsh unbalanced bitterness leaves something to be desired. Still, enjoyable enough.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is herbal tea, leaves, bread, grain, and only lightly citrus hop. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and bitter. Body is light to medium. I dig the grains and herbal tea, but expecting a Citra-heavy ale this is a bit disappointing.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is dark roasted malt with notes of liquorice, coffee and some hops. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is light and watery. Nice aroma, but too thin for its own good.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is malty with spicy rye, tea, soft notes of citrus, soap, caramel, and a touch of herbal-ish hops. Flavour is medium sweet and moderate to medium bitter. Body is medium. Weird beer, rough around the edges and flawed, lacks hops.

Bottle from a local supermarket. Sweet caramel malt aroma with candy sugar, toffee, dried fruits, and yeast. Flavour is rather sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. Nice example of the style, though on the sweet side.

From bottle at 6e Noordelijk Lentebierenfestival, Leeuwarden. Hoppy and malty aroma with notes of orange and a floral touch. Flavour is moderate sweet and moderate to medium bitter. Body is medium. Decent Pale, could use a bit more outspoken character though.

From bottle at 6e Noordelijk Lentebierenfestival, Leeuwarden. Aroma is roasty with tobacco, hints of ash and chocolate, caramel, and some fruity notes. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet with some bitterness. A bit light bodied for a Baltic Porter. Enjoyable aroma, body frankly so-so, could be better.

Bottle from a local supermarket. Rather sweet Tripel with strong candy sugar, malt, very spicy, candied orange. Body is medium. Not my kind of Tripel, a bit too sweet and sugary for my taste.
