Description
Fresh, Fun, Approachable, Hop-Forward

Hey there! We're Offshoot Beer Co. from your friends at The Bruery. Offshoot is the Bruers' playground, where we dive deep into the world of hop-forward beers. While we could definitely geek out on the intricacies of making these beers, we'd rather just open a cold one and...Relax.

What is Offshoot?

Years ago our founder Patrick Rue made a promise to NEVER brew an IPA. As time went on, our adventurous Bruers KNEW they could make world class hop-forward beers, so Offshoot was born as an offshoot of The Bruery, all while keeping Patrick's promise that The Bruery would NEVER make an IPA.

Where The Bruers Relax

Offshoot is what The Bruers drink when they're off the clock. Nothing better to help you Relax, Escape, Retreat, or Coast.

Can (4/20/20) pour from Harvest Wine & Spirits, West Hartford. Appearance is opaque dark orange-light brown with nice sparkle at the edges of the glass, a couple of nasty yeast tubes at the bottom, 4-finger(!)-width white foamy head with good retention and light leggy lacing. Aroma is very strong citrus and nectarine. Taste is sweet nectarine and citrus with mild vegetal component. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, soft carbonation, nice alcohol warmth and dry, crisp sweet finish as taste. Overall, not terribly complex but this has tons of juice! And, this is slightly over 90 days so would love to taste this fresher. A little thin. Digging it.

Very nice, crisp, golden, light amber and beautiful copper coloured body with a light haze, contributing about fifteen per cent opacity, all with a dense, three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of pine, grass, flowers, resin, honey and a light touch of medicine and alcohol. Medium to perhaps Full-bodied; Strong floral and piney hop notes and bitterness with a light touch of fruity sweetness and resin, but the burn and warmth from the alcohol and astringency at the end is quite evident. Aftertaste is deep and robust with the floral and very grassy hop notes and bitterness very strong at the end, with a good, supportive and deep malt backbone along with some alcohol and robust astringency. Overall, a strong and fitting beer for the style, with perhaps a touch too much grassy and floral hoppiness instead of citrusey/pine/dank notes, but pretty good overeall, and makes me remember the days of a truly bitter, pungent, West Coast dank IPA with the 'new' nuances and tendancies that most IPAs have now-a-days that a lot of time aren't even bitter at all! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from the Department of Beer and Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 17-July-2020 for US$4,76 sampled the following day, at home in Washington on 18-July-2020.

16 oz can from dbarnold and jcos, 6/24/20. Hazy find, a strong white head that sticks around. Grassy, grapefruit, orange zest, and a little bread. Some spice notes. Solid pils, though not quite as crisp as I wanted it to be.

16 oz can from dbarnold and jcos, 6/24/20. Canned 3/27/20. Thanks dudes! Caramel-orange pour with a big, foamy, beige head. Big malty presence here, lots of caramel, bread, spice, pine, and a little earth. Nothing is wrong with this beer, but it's just not quite there.

Mango and some green onion, pine. Pours murky yellow with decent head and great lacing. Hop tang finish. Ok but the regular version I had was much better. May have been fresher. Tap at Fire Works.
