(Draught at Brydens, Sept 21 2013) Pours a dark yellow to pale orange with a small white head, fades quickly without lace. Aroma is funk-forward, bit of tart pit/tropical fruit, slight grainy body, yeasty note. Palate is slightly sour and funky at first, remaining sour through the middle with a bit of fruity hops, Brett, slight malt character in the middle, Finishes fairly sour with some bitterness, lingering citrus peel. Body moderate, carb moderate, on style. Good use of the Brett here, nice funky saison.

Like a saison with some funk added to it. A little bit of bretta and some sour cheese aroma. Light bitter finish, light sour. Nice integration - I enjoyed this like their regular paysan. On tap at Zwanze Day at volos.

Bottle: Poured clear amber color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention. Aroma consists of light bitter and citrus hops with light dry caramel malt presence. Taste is mostly dominated by light dry and citrus hops notes with light dry caramel malt. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad overall but lacking a bit of a hops punch.

Bottle: Poured a brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of raisins and spice with light dry caramel malt. Taste is also dominated by dry raisins with some dry caramel malt with light oak notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Bourbon is really hard to detect which was a disappointment and base spices beer is not bad but again nothing really special.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper color with a small foamy head with low retention and no lacing. Aroma of spices and herb is more dominant then expected. Taste is very strong on spices and herb with one spices, which I can identified, really coming through – maybe a tad too much. Body is bit thin for style with medium to low carbonation and no signs of alcohol. Not bad but spices are somewhat of an overkill.

Tap: Poured a cloudy dirty color Saison with a nice dirty white foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of weird grassy notes with some floral notes and light fruitiness with slightly weird citric notes that are also detectable. Taste is a weird mix between light fruity notes, medium sweet malt base and some off grassy hoppy notes which doesn’t really fit with the malt profile. Body is full with great carbonation. I couldn’t really taste regular Amarillo flavours which make me wonder if something went wrong with the hops addition during brewing.

Cask: Poured a dark black color stout with a light dark brown foamy head with light retention. Aroma of chocolate and green pepper is not the most interesting. Taste is also dominated by light roasted malt, bitter chocolate and with loads of green peppers. Body is a bit light with medium carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I am not sure what brewing flaws generates the green peppers ester but this was not the most pleasant experience.

Enjoyed at the National Capital Craft Beer Week. Advertised as "Amerillo Saison". Pours a cloudy golden colour with a white creamy head and wavy thick lacing. Beautiful nose with the hop giving out grassy and minty notes. Also, Belgian Ale yeast that make this one real fresh smelling. Same for flavours, but slightly milder. This is a great fresh tasting herbal Saison which I really enjoyed.
