Smell has a little bit of sassafras to it, but then a note of malt and spice, kind of like an English brown ale. Then the nose picks up some roasty stout malt as well. Beer in the glass is cloudy brown, with a root-beery layer of foam. Taste is a bit tart and yeasty. I get some root beer to it, but there are a lot more spices. A bit of watery mouthfeel. I am going to seek this out on tap and hope to get a better impression.

Notes from August, 2016. The beer pours a hazy yellow, like the expected Belgian Wit profile. A thin head resolves to a slight ring of foam around the edge of the glass. The smell is more along the lines of lemon and ginger; perhaps when I hear the words juniper berries, I think of gin. The taste has more of a coriander spice or grains of paradise. The total effect is of another slightly tart, light summer beer, good for after chores tor to go with, hmm, tilapia, I think. Or other light meats like chicken or pork. Which leads to the theory I’m working that your easiest beer pairing is to match the color to a wine color: light wheat beers and pilseners for white wine foods, to dark stouts and ports for red wine foods. But there are exceptions everywhere.

Thanks for the 12 oz. bottle share Willrunforbeer! Slightly halt golden color, thin head on top. Aroma is pure ginger root, nothing more.

Flavor is mostly earthy ginger. Malt light traces of malt. Medium body, normal carbonation level. It reminds me more of a ginger beer. Decent.

12oz bottle. Really different. Root beer, cinnamon flavors all the way, of the more natural sort I suppose, but really has a ton going in terms of herbal tones. The base beer is thin, sweet, pretty weak for a beer really, but it suits the style here well enough. There really is a fascinating depth of botanical action. Oak, vanilla smooth it all out. Worth a try, good for a tasting, not really something I’d want to drink much of though. Certainly unique.

12oz bottle. Unfiltered orange-tan body. Thin, patchy white head. Really unique, This has a lot of depth to start with, and the flowers just give it a further twist. Elder adds some honey. Really unique, well executed,

Slightly hazy honey coloured body with a thinnish off-white head. Aroma of fresh very grassy and herbal hops with a nice touch of light spices/herbs and a little sweetness noticeable as well. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong grassy flavour hits up front with a big hoppiness and a touch of malt as well, but this is a touch one-dimensional. Aftertaste shows some subdued herbal and fresh cut grass elements, but basically about the light hops and not much malt for this one. Overall, a decent APA with some moderate hop flavours, but not too strong and no real malt presence here - pretty average. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Trader Joe’s in Chicago (Ontario Street, River North) yesterday on 11-February-2016 for US$2,75, sampled in my hotel room here in Chicago on 12-February-2016.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is a super sweet molasses with a decent hop and some licorice. Flavor is a lot of licorice and dark fruit with a molasses. Lots of dark fruit and a decent roast follow the swallow. A decent roasted nuttiness and then a nice dark fruit a licorice make this a nice beer to look for. Not a heavy porter but the additions make this a winner.
