Doesn't smell too sweet but has a bready malt backing for the spice-forward nose. Caramel and vanilla help soften.
Spicy and malty, nice and dry. Not intensely spiced and the malt still comes through nicely. Good attenuation. Their beers are very polished and well-made. Love it.

Round, sweet, rich vanilla seems to outdo the bourbon. Initially, at least. A bit of earthy char and salt with very mild pepper announces the barrel presence and a classic fudge-like malt base supports, with no alcohol noted.
That's a whole hell of a lot of vanilla, which is absolutely delicious and has a great spice/bitter finish. Great chewy texture, not too sweet or syrupy. The bourbon is certainly there but I wish there was a little more of it and a little less vanilla, even if the vanilla is done incredibly well.

Slight prune and chocolate-laced roast. Can see the port influences but the bourbon and rye certainly pump out the spice. No alcohol noted and seems to have plentiful caramel and chocolate character with low roast.
Rich, velvety, very spicy and nicely dry. Chocolate and heavy spice lingering with mild warming. Cherry vanilla emerging to build complexity. Very chewy, bordering syrupy, but not too sweet. Spice keeps building from the whiskey...

Rich vanilla and well-homogenized bourbon character. Sweet port-like character almost, with raisin, mild fudge and lingering spice. No sign of alcohol. Definitely some stout tendencies here.
Rich and spicy bourbon with a fudgey, chewy, but not syrupy texture. Big brown sugar, date and fudge. Not as much caramel as a typical lighter barleywine and I like that a lot. Seems to be less sweet as a result. Nice balance of sweet and dry, with big peppery spice and some dark fruit-like acidity. No alcohol anywhere. Slight warming on the finish. Very well-made and blended stuff.
