Description
Whiner Beer Co. focuses on barrel-aged beer, a tradition common in Belgium and France that is gaining foothold in the US. Industry veterans and partners Brian Taylor and Ria Neri aim to make beers for people with a wanderlust palate, a curiosity for the strange and unknown, and those who take their beer seriously, but never themselves.
Housed in The Plant, a net-zero energy business incubator located in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood, Whiner aims to promote environmentally responsible brewing. The brewery will play a major role in the operations of The Plant’s anaerobic digester. Once up and running, Whiner’s spent grain will help fuel the digester, producing energy for the entire building.

12 ounce can from Woodman's Kenosha, 1/29/21. Hazy orange, large foamy white head, good retention. Aroma of wine, oak, pale wheat. Taste is stone fruit, spice, wine, marzipan, wheat. Medium bodied, interesting.

cool can. taste is big saison, a little peppry. bitter sensation sets in astringently almost. looks decent in my bergenbier glass. yah - know, nice clear pale amber with a really tall friendly alabaster head. yes s, impressive saison attributes in the middle, weird style, JMHO. decent ratebeer experience in the end. Really gives you an idea of a typical decently made saiseee.

Q: Would you say a beer contains “watermelon” or “watermelons”? Either way, I didn’t get much watermelon.

Can with cool label, really looking forward to this since I love berliners. Hay colored and mostly clear. Whew, smells like a real wild beer, exciting! First taste is gorgeous. Yummy wild fun. I typically don't like pineapple beers or cider but this one is not over the top. Well balanced with the pineapple effects. This brew is very much appreciated with its wild attitude and all after a hot day in the garden. Thank you whiner. Except for the pineapple, which is not bad, this is a pretty good beer tasting experience. I'd love to taste this without the fruit flavoring.

My yellow label $2 can says this stuff is foggy IPA. However, it pours clear pale yellow with a bubbly white head. A lighter tasting IPA with certain IPA notes. A little pepper in there as well. Yes, this does have some saison attitude about it but there is a hoppy APA overlay in there too. Quite refreshing for how warm it is. Not as refreshing as you would think for a saison, but its OK. I'm not sure how this is labeled hazy IPA, quite funny.

12 ounce can. Labeled as Monsieur Monster. Hazy pale gold color. Small frothy beige head disappears quickly. Tart fruity malt aroma hints at pineapple. Tangy, yeasty malt flavor. Hints at pineapple and lemon. Smooth and sassy.

Man, haven’t had a saison in like a month. Never heard of this Chicago brewery but it’s solid. Bubbly like le tub.

Clear reddish-salmon color with a medium pinkish-white head that dissipates steadily to a film. Stringy lace. Aroma of wheat, berry and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of blueberry, floral wheat and doughy malt. The finish is mildly tart with a blueberry aftertaste. Decent overall.

12oz can. Big foamy white/off-white head. Slightly hazy orange-tan body. Kind of horrible aroma, infected off and unappealing. The Hallertauer Blanc add an interesting tone...had the base Saison been better perhaps it would work. The barrel tones add nothing but infected brett and garbage tones, not a well executed beer. Musty and off-putting, this is another nail in the coffin for me and Whiner. Not good.

12 ounce can. Dark brown pour. Short-lived bubbly tan head. Light yeasty dark malt aroma. Sweet roasted malt flavor is mild. Notes of chocolate and cardamom. Thin bodied, more like a porter or dark lager than a stout. Hints of red berry, yeast and raisins.
